Disappointed with Morata

Alvaro Morata arrived at Galatasaray with high expectations, but after just three months, the striker became the focus of criticism from fans and experts.

Morata failed to live up to expectations at Galatasaray.

Expected to become the main attacking spearhead, Morata failed to show his class, especially in the context of continuous injuries and fluctuating form.

Since joining the Turkish side in the winter, Morata has scored just three goals in 10 games - a disappointing return. His situation has been made worse by his absence from six games through injury, which has diminished his contribution to coach Okan Buruk's tactics. In the last three games, Morata has only been brought on as a late substitute, reflecting a lack of confidence from the coaching staff.

A string of injuries has been a major obstacle to Morata’s ability to reach his potential. After missing several important matches between February and March, he was again absent from the Turkish Cup semi-final due to a groin injury. Meanwhile, coach Buruk has been constantly experimenting with alternative options, suggesting that Morata is no longer an indispensable piece in the squad.

In addition to his fitness issues, Morata also could not hide his dissatisfaction with having to sit on the bench. According to experts, the Spanish striker is considering leaving Galatasaray next summer if the situation does not improve. Although he loves Istanbul and is committed to the club, he is unlikely to accept the role of being just a backup option.

Morata's salary of 6 million euros/year makes him one of the highest paid players in the team, but his performance is not commensurate. Three goals in 581 minutes of playing time is too little for a star receiving such a generous salary, causing Galatasaray's management and fans to question the value of this deal.

Osimhen's rise has only served to highlight Morata's lack of form. In the three months since Morata joined, the Nigerian striker has scored 13 goals, becoming an indispensable pillar in Galatasaray's attacking system. This impressive performance has further left Morata in the shadows, failing to meet the expectations of his fans.

Although Morata is on loan at Galatasaray until January 2026, his future at the club is increasingly uncertain. The decision to extend his contract will depend on his performance and contribution in the coming months. Given the current situation, it is not surprising that Morata will have to leave in the summer of 2025 to seek new opportunities.

Once a star who was expected to become a mainstay, Morata now faces an uncertain future at Galatasaray. Frustrations are mounting, and the question of whether he can regain his peak form in the coming months remains an open one.
