In 2025, Kien Giang General Hospital was assigned by the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee to mobilize hospital staff, civil servants, and workers to donate more than 1,000 units of blood. To date, the hospital has completed this target. However, Kien Giang General Hospital is the final unit treating severe cases in the province. Every day, hundreds of emergency, surgical, and accident patients need blood transfusions to save their lives. Therefore, the unit is facing a serious blood shortage, with some emergency cases having to be delayed, and some surgical cases having to be transferred to other hospitals due to lack of blood.
To address this situation, voluntary blood donation activities among all cadres, civil servants and employees of the unit were carried out within 1 week (from August 11 to 17), striving to mobilize 626 units of blood. Specialist Doctor II Truong Cong Thanh - Director of Kien Giang General Hospital said: “Those working in the medical field understand better than anyone the value of each unit of blood. In the process of saving the patient's life, blood is the "special medicine", especially in cases of accidents, gastrointestinal bleeding, obstetrics, hematology... Therefore, all cadres, civil servants and employees of the hospital responded to the call "Treating with knowledge - Saving people with the heart - Donating blood for life". Immediately after the launching ceremony, the board of directors, leaders of departments and rooms of the hospital directly participated in blood donation, spreading the pioneering spirit, demonstrating compassion and responsibility to the community".
Dr. Vo Kim Tho - Infection Control Department has a history of anemia, so she has never donated blood voluntarily before. Responding to the call of the hospital's Board of Directors, Dr. Tho donated blood for the first time. "Although my history does not allow me to donate blood regularly, I still want to contribute a small part to save the lives of those in need. As a doctor, I clearly understand how much I should donate to ensure my own safety and help patients," Dr. Tho shared.
Many officers, civil servants and employees of Kien Giang General Hospital not only directly participated but also encouraged relatives and friends to donate blood. Quach Trong Phuc, a resident of Rach Gia Ward, shared: “My mother is a nurse at Kien Giang General Hospital. When she learned that the hospital was short of blood, she encouraged the whole family to participate. Having donated blood at school before, I know that this is very safe and can help save many lives.”
In the coming time, the blood supply situation in the province will still face many difficulties. Therefore, medical treatment facilities in the province should organize and mobilize cadres, civil servants and workers to participate in blood donation, coordinate with Kien Giang General Hospital to collect, screen and resupply blood to meet the treatment needs of patients.
Kien Giang General Hospital calls on agencies, businesses, organizations, unions, volunteers, philanthropists and people in the whole province to participate in voluntary blood donation, with the spirit of "A drop of blood given - A life left behind". Fixed blood collection points: From Monday to Friday every week, morning from 7 - 11 am, afternoon from 1 - 5 pm, at Kien Giang General Hospital, No. 13 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, Rach Gia Ward. Mobile blood collection points, all days of the week, including holidays, at units that have registered to mobilize blood donation. Please contact and register for a mobile blood donation schedule at the customer care hotline: 02978.552.002 or Master Danh Ngoc Minh - Deputy Head of Social Work Department, phone 0946.157.137 for advice and support. |
