The world welcomes the new year 2025.

Countries around the world are entering the new year 2025 with a festive atmosphere and spectacular fireworks displays.

According to AP, countries in the South Pacific will be the first to welcome 2025 when the midnight bells ring in New Zealand at 00:00 on January 1, 2025 (18:00 on December 31, Vietnam time).

In Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, thousands of people flocked to the city center or climbed the volcanic rim to watch fireworks and light shows celebrating Auckland's Aboriginal tribes as they welcomed the new year 2025.

Two hours later in Australia, over a million people are expected to gather at Sydney Harbour to watch the traditional fireworks display. British pop star Robbie Williams will lead a concert, and Aboriginal ceremonies and performances will commemorate the land's first inhabitants.

In Asia, Japan will be the first country to welcome 2025, which is also a major holiday for the island nation. According to the lunar calendar, 2025 is the Year of the Snake, so shops in Japan sell mascots based on this zodiac animal.

Other Asian countries that celebrate Lunar New Year will welcome the Year of the Snake a little later according to the lunar calendar.

In South Korea, New Year's Eve celebrations for 2025 have been scaled back or canceled as the country observes a period of national mourning following the Jeju Air plane crash in Muan that killed 179 people on December 29.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's capital, Jakarta, will feature a spectacular fireworks display, including a drone show with 800 drones, followed by a midnight countdown at the Indonesia Roundabout Hotel.

In New York City, Times Square has been testing its famous floating ball drop, examining 2025 numbers, lights, and thousands of crystals as part of a tradition dating back to 1907. This year's celebration will feature musical performances by popular singers such as TLC, the Jonas Brothers, Rita Ora, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Meanwhile, Las Vegas will bid farewell to 2024 with its annual eight-minute fireworks display on the Las Vegas Strip, with 340,000 people expected to watch the fireworks launched from the rooftops of the city's nine largest casinos.

The French capital, Paris, will conclude 2024 with a traditional New Year's Eve countdown and a spectacular fireworks display on the famous Champs-Elysées avenue.

London will welcome the new year with a fireworks display along the River Thames and a parade through the city center on Wednesday, featuring 10,000 performers. The New Year's Eve fireworks display will be set to the tune of the London Eye, the giant Ferris wheel across the river from Big Ben, and the Houses of Parliament.
