The world welcomes the new year 2025

Countries around the world entered the new year 2025 with a bustling atmosphere and brilliant fireworks displays.

According to AP, countries in the South Pacific will be the first to welcome 2025 when the midnight bell in New Zealand rings at 0:00 on January 1, 2025 (18:00 on December 31, Vietnam time).

In Auckland - New Zealand's largest city, thousands of people flocked to the center or climbed the city's volcanic peak ring to watch fireworks and a light show honoring Auckland's Aboriginal tribes to welcome the new year 2025.

Two hours later in Australia, more than 1 million people are expected to gather at Sydney Harbour to watch traditional fireworks. British pop star Robbie Williams will lead a cabaret and Aboriginal ceremonies and performances will pay tribute to the land's first people.

In Asia, Japan will be the first country to welcome 2025, which is also a big holiday for this island nation. 2025 is also the year of the Snake according to the lunar calendar, so stores in Japan sell mascots based on this animal.

Other Asian countries that celebrate Lunar New Year will celebrate At Ty Tet a little later according to the lunar calendar.

In South Korea, New Year's Eve celebrations have been curtailed or canceled as the country enters a period of national mourning following the Jeju Air plane crash in Muan that killed 179 people on December 29.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's capital Jakarta will have a spectacular fireworks display, including a drone show featuring 800 drones, followed by a countdown to midnight at the Indonesia Roundabout Hotel.

In New York City, USA, Times Square tested the famous ball drop and tested 2025 numbers, lights and thousands of crystals as part of a tradition that dates back to 1907. This year's celebration will feature musical performances from famous singers such as TLC, Jonas Brothers, Rita Ora and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Meanwhile, Las Vegas will bid farewell to 2024 with its annual eight-minute fireworks show that will take place on the Las Vegas Strip, with 340,000 people expected to watch the fireworks launch from the rooftops of the city's nine biggest casinos.

The French capital Paris will close 2024 with a traditional countdown and a spectacular fireworks display on the famous Champs-Elysées avenue.

London will welcome in the new year with a fireworks display along the River Thames and a parade through the city centre on Wednesday involving 10,000 performers. The fireworks will be set to the London Eye, the giant Ferris wheel across the river from Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
