The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that a U.S. citizen has been kidnapped in a central Mexican state. There is currently no information regarding the victim's whereabouts or the motive for the kidnapping.

According to the FBI, 64-year-old María del Carmen López, a US citizen, was kidnapped from her home in Peblo Nuevo, Colima state. US authorities are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to her arrest. Previously, on March 3rd, four US citizens were also kidnapped in Matamoros, Mexico, near the US border. When authorities found the four victims on March 7th, two were already dead. The Gulf Cartel, a drug cartel operating in northeastern Mexico, claimed responsibility for the kidnapping and handed over five of its members.
