According to Box Office Vietnam, on May 2nd alone, Detective Kien: The Headless Case grossed over 16.2 billion VND, ranking second at the Vietnamese box office after Flip Face 8: The Embrace of the Sun. The film's revenue over the weekend also reached over 26 billion VND. Many predict that with the current success, the film could surpass 150 billion VND in the near future.
Despite investing heavily in sets, costumes, etc., when discussing box office revenue, Victor Vũ stated that his primary concern during the filmmaking process was the quality of the project. The director also aimed for the film to receive better reviews than his previous work. Meanwhile, Đinh Ngọc Diệp admitted to worrying that she and Quốc Huy wouldn't be able to attract audiences to theaters like younger actors. "I was also concerned about whether the film could break even, especially with so many good, competitive films showing in theaters during this year's holiday season," she admitted.

At the same time, the producers of Detective Kien: The Headless Case also revealed the actor playing the ghost in the film. According to the crew, this special role will be played by Tran Ngoc Tu, an athlete from the Ho Chi Minh City Vovinam team. He impressed with his height of 2.2m and weight of nearly 120kg, and has achieved many outstanding accomplishments, including a gold medal at the 2019 National Vovinam Championship.
Director Victor Vũ affirmed his desire to design the water ghost character in Detective Kiên: The Headless Case to resemble those who died underwater, their bodies swelling up. Therefore, the water ghost in this film is quite different from those in previous films. Đinh Ngọc Diệp recounted: "Every day, the person playing the water ghost had to spend 6 hours on makeup. Each appearance could cost hundreds of millions of Vietnamese dong in production costs. Thanks to this, the horror scenes created a realistic effect. Yet, Victor Vũ didn't even use up all the makeup. Sometimes it was just the leg, the head, or just one hand."
To perfect this look, the makeup team used special silicone to create the head and torso, at a cost of 300-600 million VND. The character played by athlete Tran Ngoc Tu was filmed over four days in the mountains, where the climate is harsh and the terrain treacherous. However, due to the film's pacing and the need to moderate the horror, many scenes featuring this character were cut by director Victor Vu in the final version.
