(HG) – Mr. Nguyen Van Kiet, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Chau Thanh district, informed that at dawn on May 25 in the district, a serious landslide occurred on the canal bank.
The landslide broke the concrete road on the morning of May 25.
The landslide occurred at 3 am at Mrs. Ngo Thi Sau's household, in Mai Dam canal, Phu Loi hamlet, Phu Huu commune, with a length of more than 30m, a depth of 9m, the loss of land area is more than 270m2, loss of concrete road 2m wide. From the beginning of the year until now, in Chau Thanh district, there have been 23 points of canal bank erosion, with a total length of more than 480m; the land loss area is more than 2.510m2; estimated damage of nearly 1,1 billion.
Mr. Nguyen Van Kiet, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Chau Thanh district, said that the recent landslides fortunately did not cause any loss of life. Immediately after the incident, the District Commanding Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue, in collaboration with local authorities, were present at the scene, mobilized forces on the spot to put up signs to stop all traffic to avoid further impacts, and at the same time to assist people in overcoming the consequences caused by the landslide.
