This morning (June 11th), along with over 1.2 million candidates nationwide, more than 129,000 candidates in Hanoi began the first subject of the 2026 high school graduation exam: Literature. This is one of the two compulsory subjects, organized in essay format with a time limit of 120 minutes.
This year, the number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam in Hanoi has increased by more than 5,000 compared to 2025. The exam results are used both to certify high school graduation and as a basis for admission to many universities and colleges.

Before the exam, Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training and Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the City's High School Graduation Exam Steering Committee, along with a delegation, inspected the organization of the exam and encouraged candidates at the exam site at Thai Thinh Secondary School (Dong Da Ward).
After directly inspecting the examination rooms, medical rooms, working areas of the examination site, and security and safety conditions, Mr. Nguyen Van Hien assessed that the preparation work had been implemented seriously, on schedule, and met the requirements set forth.

The Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Nguyen Van Hien, also acknowledged the active support of the functional forces for the candidates and requested the leaders of the examination centers and local authorities to continue creating the most favorable conditions for the candidates and their families throughout the examination period.
In his initial assessment of the exam organization, Mr. Nguyen Van Hien stated that Hanoi had implemented preparatory tasks early on, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Education and Training. By the time the exam took place, all necessary conditions had been fully prepared, ensuring a safe and serious examination.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, the city has mobilized the participation of departments, agencies, and local authorities in preparing the necessary facilities. The examination rooms and equipment have been thoroughly reviewed to fully meet the requirements as stipulated. In addition, attention has been paid to supporting candidates and parents to facilitate the examination process.
Professionally, the staff and teachers involved in the task have received numerous training sessions to ensure they are proficient in regulations, procedures, and related rules. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training focuses on guiding staff and teachers on how to handle potential situations, ensuring both strict discipline during the exam and maximum protection of the legitimate rights of the candidates.
Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Nguyen Van Hien, highly praised the spirit of the candidates on the first day of the exam. They arrived at the examination centers calm, confident, and ready to embark on this important exam after many years of studying and training.
To ensure the exam takes place safely and smoothly, the City Exam Steering Committee has requested that all examination centers fully prepare the necessary conditions regarding facilities, drinking water, healthcare, security, safety, and support plans for candidates. Many examination centers have also arranged waiting areas for parents and relatives dropping off and picking up candidates.
Given the potentially unpredictable weather conditions, the city is paying special attention to exam locations, ensuring the health of candidates, especially in hot weather. Support scenarios for candidates, hotlines for receiving information, and mechanisms for coordinating and handling situations are all maintained to promptly address any arising issues.

According to regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training, to be considered for high school graduation, candidates must complete all four exams, including two compulsory subjects (Vietnamese Literature and Mathematics) and two elective subjects from the 12th-grade curriculum.
To facilitate the exam, Hanoi established 222 examination centers and mobilized more than 18,500 officials, teachers, and staff to participate in invigilation duties. Preparations at the examination centers were implemented comprehensively, from facilities and security to contingency plans, ensuring the exam was conducted safely, seriously, and in accordance with regulations.
