Recognizing the increasing demand for black snails, since May 2023, Mr. Bui Huu Cuong (Hamlet 18, Ea Ktur Commune) has boldly experimented with a commercial snail farming model. Utilizing a lake surface area of approximately 1,000 m², he fenced off the area and divided it into small compartments for snail farming. He regularly cleans and checks the water quality to maintain an ideal living environment for the snails. The snails' food mainly consists of agricultural waste products such as vegetables, roots, and fruits.

Besides raising snails for commercial purposes, Mr. Cuong also proactively researched and learned techniques for incubating eggs and caring for young snails to ensure a reliable source of breeding stock. To increase the hatching rate, he collects eggs laid in the pond and puts them into incubation containers, creating a humidity level similar to the natural environment. This allows him to better control the incubation process and improve the quality of the hatchlings. On average, he sells over 1 ton of commercial snails to the market each year, at a price of approximately 70,000 VND/kg. In addition, he also supplies breeding eggs and young snails at prices ranging from 1.2 to 2.5 million VND/kg (depending on age and time of sale). Thanks to this model of raising black snails combined with breeding stock production, his family consistently earns over 100 million VND in profit each year.
Building on the initial success of the model, the local government and the farmers' association actively supported and facilitated Mr. Cuong and 10 other households in the village to establish a Black Snail Farming Professional Association in September 2024. The association has become a place where members regularly share experiences and learn snail farming techniques. As a result, farming efficiency has improved, and the income of the villagers has also increased.

Ms. Cao Thi Huong (village 18, Ea Ktur commune), a member of the Black Snail Farming Professional Association, said that her family has over 600 m² of fish ponds, but the model gradually became less effective due to high feed costs, frequent fish diseases, and slow growth. Faced with these difficulties, she decided to switch to raising black snails. After about 4 months of farming, the snails reached a weight of 25-30 snails per kilogram. Ms. Huong sells them to traders, restaurants in the local area and neighboring provinces, at prices ranging from 60,000 to 70,000 VND per kilogram. After deducting expenses, she earns a profit of nearly 70 million VND per year.
According to Nguyen Luu Tue, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Cu Kuin district, the black snail farming model is quite simple, the care is not too complicated, and the investment capital is low, but it brings clear economic benefits. In the coming time, the associations at all levels will continue to accompany farmers by transferring technology, supporting loans, and sharing production experiences... At the same time, they will guide people to effectively utilize the available water surface area from ponds, lakes, and dams to develop the snail farming model, thereby contributing to increasing income and promoting the sustainable development of household economies.
