Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam (43 years old, residing in Tan Long Hoi commune) said that for the past two weeks, he has been buying straw from farmers after they harvest their rice in several fields in communes such as Nhon Phu, Cai Nhum, Tan Long Hoi, Hoa Hiep, etc. He buys each hectare of straw for 120,000 VND, then hires a baling machine to make 12-14 bales of straw, and uses trucks to transport and resell them to cattle farmers for 480,000-550,000 VND (40,000-43,000 VND/bale); after deducting the cost of hiring the baling machine and labor for loading and unloading, he still makes a profit of 300,000-400,000 VND. On average, he buys 4-5 hectares of straw per day, earning about 1.5 million VND.

| Many households purchase rice straw after the winter-spring rice harvest for business purposes or to use for growing vegetables and straw mushrooms. |
According to Mr. Lam, many businesses buying and selling straw bales or straw collection points have sprung up near concentrated rice production areas. Because the winter-spring rice crop is entering its peak harvest season, the dry fields facilitate straw collection, leading to an increase in the amount of straw after harvest and a slight decrease in the price of straw bales compared to before. The bales are then resold to people for animal feed, mulching fruit trees, mushroom cultivation, and organic fertilizer production. This not only helps maximize the use of waste products and increase farmers' income but also replaces the burning of straw, which causes environmental pollution.
