Previously, whenever officers from the Staff Department of the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command inspected military and artillery control points (collectively referred to as survey points), they had to carry numerous maps, diagrams, and supporting equipment. However, because the paper map system could not keep up with changes in terrain, geographical features, and administrative boundaries, and the accuracy of handheld GPS devices was not high, determining the location of the points in the field was quite difficult.

Based on this reality, in 2025, Major Dong Thanh Tu, Assistant Artillery Officer, and Major Tran Anh Tuan, Assistant Unit Code Decoding Officer (Military Personnel Department, Staff Office) researched and developed the "Mobile Application for Managing Surveying Markers on Android Devices". The product helps users accurately determine the location, geodetic coordinates (longitude, latitude), and VN-2000 coordinates; and also supports the quick and convenient establishment of routes to surveying markers. To ensure military secrecy, all positions and coordinates are encrypted and stored in the system. With its superior features, even when the internet connection is lost, the device can still guide users to pre-set locations and newly entered coordinates.
According to Major Dong Thanh Tu, smartphones and tablets using the Android operating system with integrated GPS functionality have become commonplace. Therefore, the application can be widely deployed in units responsible for managing survey markers without requiring significant investment in equipment. In addition to positioning, the software also supports distance measurement, drawing planning areas, reading point data, area data, and digital map layers. With investment in a centralized data management server system, the product has the potential to expand its application throughout the entire military.
Not only in the field of surveying, many other initiatives have also emerged from practical work shortcomings. During the deployment, pulling, and hanging of communication cables, soldiers often have to climb and perform the tasks manually, which is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and poses safety risks. Furthermore, the cables are often dragged along the ground or rub directly against crossbars and poles, leading to scratches on the protective layer, signal loss, or damage to the fiber optic core. Concerned about these difficulties, Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Minh Hao, a repair technician in the Communications Company, along with a team from the Staff Department, successfully researched and manufactured a "Fiber Optic Cable Installation Support Tool." This product helps shorten installation time, reduce manpower, minimize cable damage, and improve safety during mission execution.
In the field of military ordnance, another initiative has also received high praise for its practical application. Through research of specialized documents, Major Nguyen Dinh Hai, Assistant to the Ordnance Department (Logistics-Technical Department), realized that the process of handling M79 rounds that had fired and were moving but not exiting the barrel was quite complex, posing a safety risk and requiring a lot of processing time. From there, he and his colleagues researched and perfected the product "M79 Round Handling Fixing System for Remaining Stuck in the Barrel Using a Remote-Controlled Electrical System." This initiative not only improves safety but also helps officers and soldiers feel more secure and confident during training and exercises.
The movement to promote initiatives and technical improvements at the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command has also recognized many outstanding individuals with unique ideas. One of them is Senior Lieutenant To Huu Sy, Political Officer of Company 2, Defense Command of Area 3 - Ea Sup. Consistently achieving high results in technical innovation competitions of the Provincial Military Command, he is affectionately called the unit's "scientist" by his comrades. This year, Senior Lieutenant To Huu Sy continues to make his mark with the initiative "Traffic Safety Propaganda Device". This device integrates both sound and images, uses solar power, and can operate continuously throughout the day. When a driver leaves the parking area, the sensor system automatically activates the loudspeaker with reminders such as: Check documents, vehicle technical condition, wear a helmet, or do not drive after consuming alcohol. Conversely, when parking a vehicle in the garage, the system will guide the vehicle to the correct designated parking space. After more than 3 months of use at Company 2, the device has received much positive feedback, contributing to raising awareness of traffic law compliance among officers, soldiers, and their relatives visiting for work.
Along with the aforementioned outstanding initiatives, many other products such as the "Remote-controlled lifebuoy" by Lieutenant Colonel Tran Tan Viet, Commander of the Military Command of Tay Hoa commune; the "Floating stretcher" by Captain Kieu Tan Huy, Assistant to the Military Medical Department (Logistics-Technical Department); and dozens of other initiatives have been recognized by the Innovation Council of the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command and put into practical application.
From the difficulties and obstacles encountered in carrying out their duties, the officers and staff of the armed forces of Dak Lak province have continuously sought out and innovated, creating practical and effective products. Each initiative is the culmination of intelligence, dedication, and a sense of responsibility, contributing to improving the performance of the political tasks of the provincial armed forces.
