Composer The Hien was born in 1955. He completed the Intermediate Vocal Music program at the Bong Sen Art Troupe (1977-1980) and graduated from the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music with a major in Composition (part-time program) (1995-1999). Afterward, he joined the Young Composers Club of the City Youth Union in 1978, and was a solo singer for the Bong Sen Troupe (1980-1987), participating in numerous musical programs of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association and other art troupes.
In 1982, he began his songwriting career with his debut work, "When the Balloons Fly," which was well-received by the public. A year later, he composed the song "Singing About Him ." Following that, the musician had many more famous songs. The most popular among them are "Wild Orchid Branch" and " Her Hair in a Rooster Tail ."
Among them, "Branch of Wild Orchid" was composed by the musician in 1986 while performing with the Bong Sen art troupe. The song is about the theme of soldiers.
Next, the song "Tóc Em Đuôi Gà" (Her Hair Like a Chicken's Tail) has been associated with countless generations of Vietnamese audiences. The song was composed by the musician in 1995 and became famous through the voice of Quang Linh. This song also contributed to the singer's fame. With its youthful melody and catchy, memorable chorus, the song has been loved by audiences for many years.
Composer The Hien was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist by the State in 2012. In 2023, he was awarded the title of People's Artist.
Composer The Hien has passed away, the "wild orchid" has returned to the blue sky, but the image of the musician carrying his guitar on his shoulder, bringing songs and an optimistic spirit, will forever remain in the hearts of music lovers.
