According to media reports, the layoffs do not affect employees working in the US. Although TikTok has not released exact figures, it appears that fewer than 500 people have lost their jobs.
A TikTok spokesperson said these changes are part of a plan to further strengthen content moderation globally. “We plan to invest $2 billion in safety and trust in 2024 alone and will continue to improve efficiency, with 80% of violating content being automatically removed.”
Currently, short -video apps use both automated detection and human moderators to evaluate content shared on the platform, but they are increasingly relying on technology.
This is TikTok's latest round of layoffs this year. In January, 60 TikTok sales and advertising employees lost their jobs. In April, the company cut more than 250 jobs in Ireland, and in May, around 1,000 in operations and marketing.
On its website, TikTok states that it employs more than 110,000 people in over 200 cities worldwide . A source revealed that the company plans further cuts next month while seeking to consolidate its operations.
