On the afternoon of March 6th, the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and the Department of Culture and Sports held a press conference to provide information on socio-economic issues in the city.
At the press conference, the Department of Finance presented several positive economic results. Accordingly, in the first two months of the year, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue were estimated at 212,721 billion VND, an increase of 15.9% compared to the same period last year. Export turnover was estimated at 7.86 billion USD, an increase of 19.17%. Tourism revenue exceeded 37,400 billion VND, an increase of 30.2%.
In terms of tourism, the number of international visitors to the city increased sharply to over 1 million, a 15.7% increase. Notably, the volume of public passenger transport increased by 18.9%. Of this, over 7 million passengers passed through Tan Son Nhat Airport, and over 3.8 million passengers used Metro Line 1.
Mr. Vo Ho Hoang Vu, Chief of the Office of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, provided this information at the press conference.
According to the Department of Finance, in the first two months of the year, Ho Chi Minh City collected 108,800 billion VND in budget revenue, reaching 20.92% of the projected target and increasing by 7.1% compared to the same period last year. During this time, the city attracted approximately 365.8 million USD in foreign direct investment (FDI), an increase of 87.1%.
Regarding streamlining the organizational structure, a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department stated that all procedures for citizens and businesses related to the department will be carried out seamlessly, ensuring that the removal of district/county-level police will not affect the process. Specifically for the procedures of issuing and renewing driver's licenses, the city police plan to add 22 more reception points to facilitate citizens, including 17 points in wards and 5 points in communes.
For the event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), according to the Department of Culture and Sports, the city will organize fireworks displays at 7 locations.
