Tlinh obscured her co-star.

Although The Thien sang for most of the single "Thở" (Breath), his collaborator, Tlinh, left a much bigger impression, even though she was only a guest.

Although not overly active in 2024, Tlinh still left a strong impression on audiences as an artist, collaborating on popular projects such as "Phong Zin Zin," "Hope on Da Show" (in collaboration with Low G), and " I'm Thinking About You" (in collaboration with contestants from the show "Anh Trai Say Hi "). In these songs, Tlinh's verses were always the highlight, attracting audience attention and creating trends on social media.

Therefore, choosing to collaborate with Tlinh is a double-edged sword: on the one hand, it helps the product receive attention from the start because Tlinh is an artist who has a knack for trending; on the other hand, the artist collaborating with the female singer may be "swallowed up" if they don't create something different or possess a sufficiently outstanding personality.

The Thien – a relatively new artist who debuted less than a year ago – has consistently released collaborative projects with tlinh, from her debut single SAIGONTEY to the remake of "Ở trọ" (Living in a Rented Room ), and most recently " Thở " (Breathing). Despite commendable efforts, The Thien still lacks the weight to match the powerful energy and charisma of tlinh.

The calculations of The Thien

The Thien is one of the most ambitious newcomers in Vpop recently, debuting with a lavishly produced album in terms of both visuals and sound. He hired Onionn., a producer who previously worked with Son Tung M-TP, to produce his album, and collaborated with Pixel Neko, a rising star after Rap Viet Season 4, to create some very trendy remixes. The Thien's musical style also seems quite fresh compared to the current Vpop landscape.

A significant portion of the attention for Thể Thiên comes from his single SAIGONTEY, a collaboration with tlinh. The song, with its modern and fresh deep house style combined with tlinh's charisma, has attracted considerable interest from young audiences. Without the participation of one of the hottest female artists currently, and with its unique production style, SAIGONTEY would hardly have achieved such success. The clearest evidence of this is the number of listens to the songs in his album Trần Thế ; SAIGONTEY and the interlude using the melody of Trịnh Công Sơn's Diễm Xưa far surpass the other songs, even though the quality of the songs in the album is generally comparable.

The Thien has certain ulterior motives in continuously collaborating with Tlinh on his musical projects.

Therefore, it's understandable that The Thien still wants to collaborate with tlinh on future projects. Especially in this latest single, " Thở" (Breath ), The Thien chose a romantic theme with "adult" elements, which is tlinh's strength, to develop the song's content. A series of songs with sensitive themes featuring tlinh, such as " Ghệ iu dấu của em ơi" (My Beloved Girl), "Không cần phải nói nhiều" (No Need to Say Much) , or " Fever" (a collaboration with Coldzy), have all garnered attention and sparked controversy.

The Thien has learned from his mistakes with " Thở " compared to tlinh's previous songs. The elements considered "sensitive" in the song are mostly described fleetingly, and he uses an airy voice to build atmosphere. tlinh also shows some restraint when performing the "adult" sections in English. Furthermore, The Thien continues to build on his familiar house/electronic style. Pixel Neko remains The Thien's trusted producer, and he does a good job with the skillful handling of moombahton elements.

Moreover, in this comeback, The Thien and Pixel Neko also used An Tran's saxophone for the ending of the song, giving "Thở" a distinct feel compared to other electronic songs on the market, and also supporting the song's sexiness quite appropriately. Overall, "Thở" is a fairly high-quality product with a certain creativity and uniqueness, not following the beaten path.

Tlinh is too outstanding.

However, there's one element that Thể Thiên "calculated" poorly: Tlinh's presence is too prominent. Almost every song featuring Tlinh has a verse that becomes famous and goes viral. Even when collaborating with very distinctive names like Wean (in the song shhhhh… ), Low G (in Phóng zìn zìn ), or even Pháo and Pháp Kiều (in Cái Đẹp ), Tlinh still shines brightest in the song.

That appeal largely stems from the singer's unique and unpredictable melodic style, combined with her distinctive and unconventional use of lyrics. Furthermore, Tlinh's melodic delivery is very catchy and highly memorable. Therefore, listeners are easily impressed by her verses and can quickly memorize and sing along.

Tlinh's prominence easily overshadowed her co-stars, and Thể Thiên was no exception.

In the song "Breathing Also," Tlinh begins from verse 2 and handles the melody quite differently from The Thien's verse 1, increasing the number of words and quickly gliding through each word instead of the slow, deliberate pace of the short phrases before. Coupled with performing on a theme she excels in both songwriting and performance, easily stealing the spotlight in the song. When entering the second chorus, Tlinh's vocals are positioned behind The Thien's, but her natural sexiness and ability to blend in harmoniously still allow her to shine.

Meanwhile, The Thien chose to perform in exactly the same way in both chorus sections. In fact, this approach isn't necessarily a drawback because the chorus isn't overly repetitive, and producer Pixel Neko used two different sound approaches for the two sections to prevent the song from becoming monotonous. However, because the second chorus is performed very well by tlinh, The Thien's identical, uncreative singing style draws more attention. Furthermore, The Thien's vocals lack the necessary flexibility and fluidity for such a sexy theme. The verses of The Thien are still somewhat stiff, and when compared to tlinh's smooth verses, this stiffness becomes even more apparent.

Clearly, with his third collaboration with Tlinh in less than a year since his debut, The Thien's career seems too closely tied to another name, failing to demonstrate his independence. He has a fairly distinct musical style, and his singing and songwriting abilities aren't bad, but when his products all gain attention from the audience because of his collaborations with Tlinh, it's clearly not a good thing for a new artist with as much ambition as The Thien.
