Tottenham could soon part ways with manager Tudor. |
On March 22nd, the 0-3 home defeat against Nottingham Forest was seen as the final straw. This was Tudor's fifth loss since taking over the team, pushing Spurs dangerously close to the relegation zone, just one point ahead of West Ham.
Previously, the 3-2 victory against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League was merely a formality and not enough to mask the existing problems. The London team remained mired in a crisis of form, causing the management to gradually lose patience.
According to The Times , Tottenham have begun the process of searching for a new head coach, with Roberto De Zerbi being the leading candidate. The Italian strategist is currently a free agent after leaving Marseille and is considered a good fit for the team's attacking style of play.
Besides De Zerbi, two other names on the consideration list are Mauricio Pochettino – the former Spurs manager – and Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth.
Spurs are genuinely facing the risk of relegation, something that hasn't happened since the Premier League was founded in 1992. If the worst-case scenario unfolds, the club could lose more than £250 million in television, commercial, and ticket revenue.
Following the March international break, Spurs will enter a crucial period with a series of tough opponents. In this context, the decision to change managers is a last-ditch effort to salvage a season that is spiraling out of control.
