Ho Chi Minh City finalizes the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam.

The entrance exam for 10th grade in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 is expected to take place in early June 2025, with 3 subjects: Literature, Mathematics, and Foreign Language.


On January 8th, immediately after the Ministry of Education and Training issued the circular on the regulations for admission to junior high schools and high schools, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also released official information about the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City 10th grade entrance exam.

According to Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the 2025 entrance exam for 10th grade in Ho Chi Minh City will consist of three subjects: Literature, Mathematics, and Foreign Language (primarily English).

The exams will be 120 minutes each for Literature and Mathematics, and 90 minutes for Foreign Language. The exams are tentatively scheduled for early June 2025.

The structure of the 3 subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam was announced by the Department of Education and Training on October 1, 2024. Specifically:

Literature

Part 1 (5 points): Reading comprehension of literary texts and writing a paragraph

Question 1 (3 points): Reading Comprehension

Question 2 (2 points): Write a paragraph

Part 2 (5 points) Reading comprehension of argumentative or informational texts and writing a social commentary essay.

Question 1 (1 point): Reading Comprehension

Question 2 (4 points) Write a social commentary essay.

The required reading comprehension and writing skills in the 2018 general education curriculum - Literature subject at the lower secondary level, mainly grades 8 and 9.

Mathematics

Question 1 (1.5 points) is in the format "Given the function y = ax2". Candidates should draw the graph (P) of the function and find the points belonging to (P) that satisfy the given conditions.

Question 2 (1 point) is in the format "Given the quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0". Candidates should find the conditions for the equation to have solutions; apply Vieta's formulas to calculate the value of expressions related to the solutions.

Question 3 (1.5 points) is a practical math problem involving probability and statistics.

Question 4 (1 point) requires candidates to write an expression A in terms of a certain quantity x in a real-world problem, and at the same time find the value of x for which A satisfies a certain condition.

Bài 5 (1 point) is a practical math problem related to geometry, such as perimeter and area of ​​triangles and quadrilates, arc length, circumference of a circle, area of ​​a circle, sector, segment, annulus, etc. It also covers surface area, total surface area, and volume of real-world geometric shapes…

Question 6 (1 point) is a practical math problem involving equations, inequalities, and systems of linear equations with two variables.

Problem 7 (3 points) is a plane geometry problem consisting of 3 questions: Proving that 4 points lie on a circle, parallel, perpendicular, and equal elements; Proving relationships, equal elements, collinearity, and concurrency; Calculating length, perimeter, area, and angle measures...

The exam consists of 45% geometry and measurement, 40% number and algebra, and 15% statistics and probability.

English subject

Part 1 (1.0 point) consists of 4 questions, testing knowledge of phonetics.

Part 2 (3.0 points), questions 5 to 16, tests vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills.

Part 3 (3.0 points), from question 17 to question 28, consists of reading and filling in the blanks; reading comprehension and answering questions.

Part 4 (4.0 points), questions 29 to 40, includes writing the correct form of the word; writing appropriate phrases based on given information; and writing sentences.

According to Circular 30/2024 on the regulations for admission to junior and senior high schools from 2025 onwards, recently issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, there are three methods of admission to grade 10 of high school: entrance examination, selection based on academic records, or a combination of both. The choice of admission method rests with the local authorities.

To ensure uniformity and maintain the vision of a less stressful and costly exam for admission to 10th grade in high schools, the Circular stipulates that the entire country will conduct the exam with three subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and a third subject chosen by the Department of Education and Training.

The third subject is chosen from among the subjects or combined tests with graded assessments in the lower secondary education curriculum, ensuring that the same third subject is not chosen for more than three consecutive years.
