On the morning of November 11, the Department of Education and Training held a meeting with teachers from B and inner-city teachers to celebrate the 11nd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 42.
The meeting was held at the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Hall, with the participation of more than 100 teachers from B and inner-city teachers.
This is a meeting to pay tribute to the teachers who went to B, the inner-city teachers who lived in the heart of Saigon - Gia Dinh during the resistance war against America to save the country. At the same time, this is also an opportunity to review the heroic history of the nation, with the contributions of teachers.
At the meeting, many teachers who went to B and teachers from the inner city told touching stories about the spirit of dedication to their beloved students, to the revolution and to the nation of teachers during that period.
“We graduated from college and then volunteered to go to B. Many Northern students did not have family in the South but volunteered to go to fight for their beloved South.
We went and stayed in the forest, holding guns to protect the agency, holding guns while teaching, overcoming many hardships and difficulties at that time," Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen Thu - Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Former Teachers, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Former Teachers - recounted.
Ms. Ngo Ngoc Dung - an inner-city teacher - said that the difficulties of teachers who stayed in enemy territory were different from those who went to B.
“How do we live together with the enemy? How do we convey patriotism to our students? That is what we are concerned about. Teaching, communicating, and even having to face injustice, the inner-city teachers at that time still steadfastly overcame all difficulties to complete their tasks,” Ms. Ngo Ngoc Dung said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee - expressed "deep respect and gratitude to teachers - those who lived a time of fire and flame, devoted their beautiful youth to the cause of fighting for independence and national unification and devoted their lives to the noble cause of educating people".
According to Mr. Hai, since the liberation day, the Party Committee, government and people of Ho Chi Minh City have tried to do everything possible to show gratitude to the outstanding children from all over the country who sacrificed their blood and left a part of their body on this land, contributing to writing the immortal epic of Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh - Ho Chi Minh City, including teachers who went to B and teachers working in the inner city.
However, in reality, there are still some unresolved issues that must continue to be listened to, recorded and thoroughly resolved in the coming time.
“We, the next generation, are always grateful and appreciate what our teachers have done for our country. The valuable lessons about will, determination, dedication and enthusiasm of our teachers have been and are the motivation to help us overcome all difficulties and challenges in life and work.
We always remember and promise to do our best to join the entire Party, people and army in building Ho Chi Minh City to be more civilized, modern and humane" - Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai added.
2.700 teachers go to B
During the period from 1961 to 1973, there were 10 B trips with more than 2.700 teachers leaving the podiums of high schools and universities in Ha Noi and the northern provinces and cities crossed Truong Son to the South.
Teachers were assigned to important battlefields, from the Central Highlands to the Southeast and became "teachers with guns".
“Inner-city teachers” are not people holding guns to fight, but are teachers who work quietly in the cities of the South.
