TPO - The Nguyen Khoai bridge and road project (connecting districts 7, 4, and 1), with a total investment of over 3,700 billion VND, is expected to commence construction at the end of this year and be completed in 2027. Currently, the investor and related units are preparing to carry out land clearance work.
The Nguyen Khoai bridge and road construction project (connecting Districts 7, 4, and 1) has a total investment of approximately 3,735 billion VND, funded by the city budget. Of this, land acquisition costs account for approximately 1,264 billion VND, and construction costs account for approximately 1,748 billion VND. The project is managed by the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Construction Project Management Board for Transportation Works.
On March 4th, regarding the project's progress, a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport stated that from the first to the fourth quarter of this year, they will prepare, appraise, and approve the revised feasibility study report; implement compensation, support, and resettlement; and relocate technical infrastructure.
It is expected that construction will commence, compensation, support, and resettlement work will be completed; construction, acceptance testing, and completion of the project for operation will take place from Q4/2024 to 2027, and the final project settlement will be submitted for approval in 2028.

“It is expected that in the first quarter of 2024, Ho Chi Minh City will complete the investment preparation procedures to proceed with the selection of a unit to prepare the revised feasibility study report. At the same time, the Department has coordinated with the People's Committees of Districts 1, 4, and 7 to review and update the planning and coordinated with the People's Committee of District 4 on the progress of land clearance work,” a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said.
The Nguyen Khoai bridge-road project consists of a bridge section approximately 2.5 km long; a road section over 2.3 km long; and bridge approach ramps with a total length of over 1.3 km.
The main bridge branch will construct an overpass over the Te Canal, continue on an elevated viaduct along Nguyen Khoai Street, then cross the Ben Nghe Canal to connect to Vo Van Kiet Street via two separate bridge branches, N7 and N8.
The project includes eight pedestrian bridges connecting to the roads. According to a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, roads from the southern area into the city center are currently experiencing serious traffic congestion. Major roads such as Nguyen Tat Thanh, Nguyen Huu Tho, Kenh Te Bridge, Pham Hung Road, etc., are frequently congested, even during off-peak hours.
Therefore, the Nguyen Khoai bridge-road crossing the Te Canal and Ben Nghe Canal (along the Nguyen Khoai - D1 axis) will, upon completion, form a main road connecting the southern area with the central area of Ho Chi Minh City. The project will contribute to resolving traffic congestion at the existing Te Canal bridge, Nguyen Huu Tho road, Nguyen Van Cu bridge, and Y-shaped bridge.
At the same time, this project is gradually completing the transportation and technical infrastructure system according to the plan, meeting the increasing transportation needs in the area.
