Ho Chi Minh City plans to open 37 more public electric bicycle stations.

Speaking to the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper on March 19, the leader of the Public Transport Management Center (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) said that in the coming time, the unit will coordinate with Tri Nam Group Joint Stock Company to expand the number of public electric bicycle stations by 37.

These stations are designed for both bicycles and electric bicycles, with 25 stations planned for the former District 1 area and 12 stations for the former District 4 area, according to the published location list.

This move comes after the investor officially launched the public electric bicycle service on March 15, 2026, alongside the existing traditional bicycle system. This type of service is considered suitable in the context of Ho Chi Minh City's efforts to promote public passenger transport, control private vehicles, and aim for green transportation and reduced emissions.

The development of public bicycle and electric bicycle services not only diversifies transportation options but also serves as a "last resort" connecting various forms of public transport. The plan prioritizes the placement of bicycle stations in central areas and transfer points such as bus terminals and metro stations, thereby facilitating public access to the public transport system.

Previously, the Public Transport Management Center announced that from March 15th to March 31st, in coordination with Tri Nam Company, they would be organizing a public electric bicycle trial program at the Tax Department Store station (Nguyen Hue Street, Saigon Ward). Residents and tourists who register for the TNGo-HCM application will receive a free trial code valid for 15 minutes.

Following the trial period, the operator plans to apply prices of VND 10,000 for 15 minutes, VND 20,000 for 30 minutes, VND 35,000 for 60 minutes, VND 60,000 for 120 minutes, and VND 110,000 for 240 minutes. These prices may be adjusted depending on actual operating conditions and will be officially announced upon implementation.

Since the end of 2021, Ho Chi Minh City has implemented a public bicycle service to support connectivity with other modes of transportation. To date, the system has approximately 500 bicycles at 52 stations in the central area. In the coming time, the Public Transport Management Center will continue to coordinate with relevant units to monitor the implementation process, evaluate operational efficiency and the travel needs of the people in order to gradually expand the scope of operation throughout the city.

Instructions for using public electric bicycles.

Users need to download the TNGo-HCM app from the App Store or CH Play, register an account, and log in. On the main interface, select the bicycle icon, go to "My Wallet" and "Redeem Vouchers" to enter or scan the promotional code and activate the 15-minute free trial package.

To use, select "Use ticket now" and scan the QR code on the bike to unlock. The helmet is opened via the icon on the app and placed in front of the bike basket. Then, twist the right throttle to start and begin your journey.

At the end of the trip, users return the motorbike to the nearest TNGo station, put the helmet back in its original place, and complete the process by clicking "I want to return the motorbike" on the app. During the trial period, the operating unit will have staff stationed at the location to assist and guide people in using the service.
