According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, coffee prices are rising sharply due to concerns about global supply shortages. Coffee prices have doubled in the past year, which could put significant pressure on consumers, as higher raw material prices will lead to even more expensive retail prices.

This price surge has impacted demand in major markets and begun to curb the explosive growth in consumption in emerging economies. Concerns about future production in Brazil, the world's largest coffee producer, are growing, particularly after a prolonged drought. Strong exports from Brazil early in the season have exacerbated the current supply shortages. Local farmers have also sold more than usual at this time of year, leading many to question the amount of coffee the country has left for export.

In Vietnam, the world's largest producer of Robusta coffee, production is also threatened by several factors that have been analyzed numerous times in the past. The combination of these factors is projected to drag global inventories down to their lowest level in 25 years.

According to coffee industry experts, coffee inventories at exchange-run warehouses are also on a downward trend. However, the amount of coffee awaiting quality assessment has recently increased, suggesting that record prices are attracting more supply to the exchange.
