China is desperate for H200 chips, NVIDIA is urging TSMC to speed up production.
Demand for H200 AI GPUs from China has surged far beyond existing inventory, forcing NVIDIA to urge TSMC to accelerate production despite regulatory hurdles.

NVIDIA is facing significant pressure as demand for its H200 AI chip from China far exceeds initial forecasts. Chinese tech companies are reportedly placing orders for over 2 million H200 chips for 2026, while NVIDIA only has around 700,000 units in inventory.
The supply-demand gap has forced NVIDIA to request TSMC to accelerate production, expected to start in Q2 2026. The H200 belongs to the Hopper architecture and is manufactured using a 4nm process, although it is an older generation compared to the upcoming Blackwell and Rubin.
Demand surged from Chinese internet giants, who viewed H200 as a leap forward over existing GPUs. The price of around $27,000 per chip is considered attractive as it is cheaper than the black market and many times more powerful than H2O. However, the export of H200 to China still depends on Beijing's final decision, despite the US easing its ban.
If approved, the H200 frenzy could shake up the global AI chip supply chain in 2026. Readers are invited to watch the following video : Iris scanning tool to verify human identity | VTV24
