Schools worth billions of dong are left idle.

Tra Don Secondary School (Tra Don commune, Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province ) was constructed starting in 2021 with 13 rooms, including 10 classrooms and 3 subject-specific rooms. The project was managed by the Nam Tra My District Investment and Construction Project Management Board, with a budget of nearly 8 billion VND. Although completed in early 2023, the building has been unable to operate due to fire safety regulations recently issued by the Ministry of Construction.

Tra Don Secondary School is "out of service" because it does not meet the new fire safety regulations.

Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Ba, Principal of Tra Don Secondary School, said that because the classrooms were built a long time ago and are now dilapidated, they had to be demolished to build a new school. Last school year, the school had 7 classes and 228 students in 4 grades.

"The reason the new school cannot be put into use yet is due to fire safety regulations recently issued by the Ministry of Construction . We are only the beneficiary. Because the regulations are not yet in place, we cannot sign the acceptance agreement, nor can the investor hand over the school to us for management and use," Mr. Bá said.

Mr. Le Trung Thuc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Don commune, said that due to the risk of delays in the opening of Tra Don Secondary School, the commune has requested the District People's Committee and the District Investment and Construction Project Management Board to expedite the implementation of regulations to meet fire safety requirements.

A leader of the People's Committee of Nam Tra My District said that the district is reviewing and supplementing the new fire safety regulations. For Tra Don Secondary School, approximately 1 billion VND will be allocated from the district budget to ensure compliance with the new fire safety regulations. It is expected that students will be able to attend the new school at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year.
