On April 5, the delegation of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training had a working session with representatives of the American International School - Vietnam (AISVN International School) and parents regarding issues at the school.
Calculate the plan to issue shares to parents
At the meeting, Mr. Ho Quang Trung, a member of the school board, said that the financial situation is facing many difficulties, the school has proposed many plans to invite investors to cooperate to maintain operations. Besides, the school has also committed to the amount of support.
"With the amount of money parents have paid, the school is planning to issue shares to parents," Mr. Trung said and emphasized that this is an important stage and promised to try his best.
The school is currently marking time for the staff in March, and at the same time approving the salary payment order for the team (3:15 p.m. on April 4), but because the bank reported a system error, the staff has not received it yet.
Mr. Trung, on behalf of the school, apologized to parents for the recent events. He also directed staff to respond via email to thank parents for their contributions and commit to returning them. The school will find financial resources for long-term operation and will officially notify all parents.
Ms. Chandra McGowan, Principal of the school, said that currently there are 2-3 teachers refusing to return to school until they receive all their quota in March 3; 2024 teachers have not submitted their resignation documents yet, so the school has not yet made specific allocations. In classes lacking teachers, the school moves students to the library room and self-study under the supervision of the librarian (only allowed to study Math).
“Currently, there are about 15 teachers quitting for many different reasons. If the maintenance fee is fully paid, the school will still implement the program." Principal of AISVN International School said.
Truong promised too many times
Ms. Tran Phuong Anh - representative of parents who supervises school activities, said that she can only call on each grade level for support. However, each parent has different reasons, while the school does not take positive action.
Ba Anh emphasized that her main responsibility is to monitor the cash flow, not to call for contributions. The school lost trust from parents because it failed to provide a long-term direction for its activities with parents. Therefore, according to her, asking parents to pay money is very difficult.
Ms. Le Nhat Yen, representative of student parents, said that in the plan the school presented, it was to contribute 4 billion VND to the working group's account, but it has not yet been seen. The school needs to take measures to promptly notify parents. The tables on finances and number of students are currently not specific according to reality.
“How will the school publicize the list of parents who contribute? The status of contributions to the school, who has contributed, who has not paid... all parents do not know. Ms. Yen emphasized.
Responding to parents' questions, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, school accountant, said that the school is currently negotiating a time with Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em - Chairwoman of the School Council to make the 4 billion transfer. The school will prepare a detailed written statement regarding the above incident.
Listening to the opinions of all parties, Ms. Le Thuy My Chau, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, informed that the Department has come up with many plans recently. To this day, the Department has chosen a solution that believes in the parents' wishes for their children to continue studying here.
At this time, everything needs to be made public so that parents can understand, and the professional department continues to capture, monitor, and record to promptly report and propose solutions. Exemptions/reductions must be clearly calculated.
“Investors and schools need to have a thank you letter, how to send it to show the respect of the investor and the School Board for the parents' gesture. Because recently, the school has made many promises. The Department requests investors to have a specific plan for restructuring soon, before May 15. The Department's role is only to supervise. Ms. Chau said.
