Tuanzebe sues MU for medical negligence.

According to documents obtained by Sky Sports , the 27-year-old midfielder accused MU of failing to provide medical advice, diagnosis and treatment, causing his back injury to become chronic.

Tuanzebe joined the Red Devils' academy at the age of eight, was named Young Player of the Year in 2015, and made his first-team debut in early 2017. Despite impressing in some big games – like shutting down Mbappe in the Champions League – his career has been plagued by injury.

The lawsuit centers on a "pars fracture" injury - a stress fracture of the lower spine - that Tuanzebe suffered in January 2020. He claims that the MU medical team did not allow him to rest, did not refer him to a specialist, but instead allowed him to continue training and playing. As a result, the injury became more serious, leading to a "level 4 bilateral fracture" and chronic pain.

According to records, just 3 months after the first injury, Tuanzebe was allowed to return to the youth team, then played for the first team in October 2020. When Napoli had a medical examination when he moved to Serie A in 2022, Italian doctors discovered a persistent spinal fracture and spondyloarthritis - a sign that the injury had existed for a long time.

Tuanzebe was once considered a talented central defender at MU.

However, the then-head doctor of MU – Steve McNally – is said to have downplayed the risk of injury. He believed it was just a form of postural disorder or mild inflammation and did not require surgery. Mr. McNally left the club at the end of 2022 after 16 years of work and was named in the lawsuit.

The Burnley player claims that if he had been diagnosed and treated properly in 2020, he could have continued his career at the top level without any physical limitations. Tuanzebe said that it would only be three years later, in April 2023, that he would be able to receive the appropriate treatment.

Despite still playing in the Premier League, the Congolese defender claims his income and career opportunities have been severely damaged by the long-term medical consequences.

MU refused to comment on the incident, while experts said this could be one of the rare medical lawsuits involving a player of a top English club, opening a notable precedent for the relationship between teams and players in injury treatment.
