Thailand U23 finished behind Cambodia U23.

Thailand U23 faced Myanmar U23 in their opening match of the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship. The home team quickly took control of the game and put Myanmar U23 in a difficult position. In the 21st minute, Phodchara easily finished from inside the penalty area to open the scoring for Thailand U23 after a clever pass from his teammate.

Thailand U23 were the better team. On the other hand, Myanmar U23 played very poorly. Their defense constantly made mistakes, and the second goal was inevitable. In the 32nd minute, Hei Soe made a silly mistake losing the ball just outside the penalty area. Immediately, Chukid appeared and unleashed a beautiful long-range shot to make it 2-0.

In the first half, U23 Cambodia added another goal when goalkeeper Syafiq made a mistake, pushing the ball into his own net.

In the second half, the Cambodian U23 team continued to demonstrate their superiority. In the 50th minute, Rotana completed his brace, giving his team a 3-0 lead. In the final 20 minutes of the match, the Cambodian U23 team added two more goals to seal a sweet 5-0 victory in their opening game.

With this result, U23 Cambodia leads Group A, ahead of U23 Thailand due to a better goal difference.
