Develop a reading habit.
At Hop Hoa Primary School in Tan Thanh commune, it's easy to spot students regularly visiting the library to read. The school library, built by the GNI organization in 2021, currently houses approximately 3,950 books across a wide range of genres. On average, the library receives around 960 student visits for on-site reading and over 1,250 book borrowing and returning transactions each month.
To promote reading in schools, the library regularly organizes activities such as book introductions, themed story reading sessions, writing feedback forms, and a "reading points" program, thereby creating interest and maintaining reading habits for students.
Tran Kha Ngan, a student in class 5A1 at Hop Hoa Primary School, shared: “I really enjoy going to the library to read books. I often take advantage of recess time to go to the library. I like reading comic books, self-help books, and science books. Besides that, I also borrow books to read at home on weekends. Thanks to reading every day, I learn many new words, understand more about the world around me, and study better.”
Currently, the province has 15 libraries established by the GNI organization in schools. Since these libraries began operating, the number of student reading sessions has increased significantly. Specifically, previously each school only achieved about 300 reading sessions per year, but now this number has increased to nearly 3,000 per year. This shows that students are increasingly enthusiastic and proactive in visiting libraries and are gradually forming a reading habit.
Improve the quality of learning.
To foster a reading habit and encourage self-learning, the school established a Reading Club and collaborated with the GNI organization to implement various reading programs, attracting a large number of students. Through this, students proactively access knowledge from books, leading to continuous academic progress. Thanks to the effective operation of the library and the reading club, the percentage of students achieving good and excellent grades has steadily increased over the years, contributing to the school's achievement of national standards level 1 and educational quality accreditation level 2.
Sharing his thoughts on the role of libraries in improving the quality of education, Mr. Leng Huy Tuc, Principal of Yen Thanh Ethnic Boarding Junior High School, said: “Libraries are an important foundation that helps students develop a spirit of self-learning and proactively access knowledge. Building reading spaces and maintaining library activities has created a positive learning environment, contributing to the sustainable improvement of the school's educational quality.”
Libraries not only expand learning spaces but also contribute to fostering a reading culture, nurturing a spirit of self-learning, and inspiring a desire for excellence in each student.
