Uong Bi: Diverse new tourism products

Việt NamViệt Nam02/01/2025

Along with its strengths in cultural and spiritual tourism , Uong Bi is focusing on investing in existing tourism products, researching and developing new, highly feasible products… All of this aims to increase attractiveness and create a breakthrough for local tourism in the future.

According to Mr. Pham Xuan Thanh, Head of the Culture and Information Department of Uong Bi City, in December 2022, Uong Bi City approved the Project for the Development of Uong Bi Tourism Products, giai đoạn 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030. Accordingly, the task for the 2022-2025 period is to focus on exploiting existing strong tourism products and researching and developing new, highly feasible products.

In March 2022, Uong Bi City issued a plan to implement the above project. First, to provide direction and guidance for tourism development, Uong Bi City focused on approved tourism development plans for historical sites, spiritual tourism destinations, and ecotourism sites. During the period 2022-2024, Uong Bi City allocated 3 billion VND to invest in tourism digital transformation projects, such as: digitizing tourism resources on digital platforms, establishing a Uong Bi tourism brand identity, attaching QR codes to historical sites, and conducting VR3600 virtual reality tours of Yen Tu...

This has contributed to enriching tourism products while increasing amenities and keeping pace with the development trends of modern tourism. At the same time, the city has mobilized significant social resources to invest in tourism product development, totaling over 6 billion VND, forming tourism products from capital sources of organizations, individuals, and businesses. The city also focuses on developing preferential policies at destinations to attract tourists during off-peak seasons, issuing flexible policies on preferential loan terms, ensuring capital security for economic entities participating in tourism development, reforming administrative procedures, promoting digital transformation to attract investment in tourism, and emphasizing tourism human resource training...

Thanks to this, after about 3 years of implementing the Project, Uong Bi City's tourism products have changed rapidly and become more diverse. Specifically, in the group of cultural, historical, and spiritual tourism products, Uong Bi City has added two provincial-level relics: the Nam Mau communal house and temple (Thuong Yen Cong commune) and the Ho Mountain cave - Xep Bang mountain cave (Phuong Nam ward), along with the Thanh Y Dao ethnic cultural space exhibition house in Thuong Yen Cong commune (operating from August 2024).

Regarding wellness and health tourism products, there are additional offerings such as foot baths, herbal baths, and cultural experiences of the Dao people at the Khe Su 2 village community tourism model (Thuong Yen Cong commune). Agricultural tourism products include Happy Farm Uong Bi (Quang Trung ward), privately invested and operated, offering attractive experiential tourism activities such as fishing, fruit picking, fun folk games, photo opportunities, and rural cuisine.

R
Uong Bi is leveraging the scenic value of the Yen Tu historical site and other scenic spots to develop new tourism products and experiences.

Furthermore, ecotourism and MICE tourism products have also seen positive developments. This includes the emergence of many ecotourism products in Khe Song - Thac Bac, Phuong Hoang Peak, Binh Huong Peak, etc., which, although not yet officially recognized as tourist destinations, attract a large number of visitors. MICE tourism is currently invested in and developed by Tung Lam Development Joint Stock Company in the Yen Tu historical and scenic site.

However, alongside these achievements, there are still some limitations, such as the development of products not commensurate with the inherent potential; the exploitation of natural landscapes and agricultural economic values is still limited; the quality of tourism products is not consistent across tourist destinations, and the level of connectivity is not high... Therefore, Uong Bi is not yet an ideal stopover and accommodation destination for tourists. These are issues that need to be addressed in the future to implement the Project most effectively.
