Speaking ahead of the Champions League match against Bodo/Glimt, Guardiola confirmed that he doesn't have many options to rotate his attacking line. The Spanish strategist said that Haaland desperately needs a rest, but that's almost impossible at the moment because replacements aren't ready.
"Haaland is an extremely important player for us. We need him, just like we need all the other players," Guardiola emphasized.
Last weekend, Haaland had a lackluster performance in Manchester City's 0-2 defeat to Manchester United in the Manchester derby. The Norwegian striker even limped off the pitch at half-time after a collision with Harry Maguire and was substituted in the 80th minute after failing to make much of an impact in attack.
Guardiola revealed that Haaland had to continue playing because Omar Marmoush was still unavailable after participating in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON). Meanwhile, new signing Antoine Semenyo was ineligible to play in the Champions League.
The 53-year-old manager also said that Marmoush is unlikely to travel with the team to Norway to face Bodo/Glimt, meaning Haaland will continue to lead the attack when he returns to his homeland to play.
With a packed schedule of matches every 3-4 days, Man City is facing a daunting fitness challenge, with Haaland's condition clearly the biggest concern.
