Over the past 30 years since taking over control of the southern part of the Ho Chi Minh Flight Information Region, VATM has affirmed the position of Vietnam's air traffic management sector on the international stage.
On the afternoon of December 7th, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) held a ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of taking over the management of the southern part of the Ho Chi Minh Flight Information Region (FIR Ho Chi Minh).

12 million flights with absolute safety
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Hoang Minh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, emphasized that December 7, 1994, marked a significant historical milestone. At exactly 00:00 on December 8, 1994 (international time), ICAO officially handed over control of the southern part of the Ho Chi Minh FIR to Vietnam after 18 years of dedicated investment in modern infrastructure and training of personnel to international standards.
According to Mr. Minh, this event not only affirms a major step forward in economics, technology, diplomacy , and defense, but also opens a period of strong development for Vietnam's air traffic management.

Over the past 30 years, VATM has ensured absolute safety for nearly 12 million flights, achieving total revenue of nearly 32,000 billion VND, air traffic control fees of over 75,000 billion VND, and contributing over 36,000 billion VND to the state budget.
"This is a historically significant event in the development of Vietnam's air traffic management system, a crucial milestone in economic , technical, diplomatic, and national security aspects. This success has affirmed the position of Vietnam's air traffic management sector in particular and the Vietnamese aviation industry in general on the international stage," Mr. Minh emphasized.
VATM reaches international standards.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan highly appreciated VATM's efforts over the past 30 years. He emphasized that the Corporation has become a strong state-owned enterprise, with modern facilities and a highly qualified staff, meeting the requirements for ensuring safety and efficiency in domestic and international flight operations.

Deputy Minister Tuan pointed out the major challenges facing the aviation industry, including the rapid growth of air transport, the need for high-tech applications, and the demand for absolute flight safety. At the same time, given the strategic location of the Ho Chi Minh FIR, especially in the East Sea region, the role of VATM becomes even more important.

The Deputy Minister proposed that VATM focus on the following objectives: Ensuring absolute safety for flight operations within the Ho Chi Minh FIR; Modernizing infrastructure and applying advanced technologies; Developing high-quality human resources; Strengthening international integration and regional cooperation; Promoting sustainable development, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and aiming to build a green and environmentally friendly aviation industry.
