On the afternoon of July 14th, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) sent a document announcing its approval for three Ho Chi Minh City clubs to change their names for the 2025-2026 season, as requested by the relevant organizations.

Specifically, based on the letter from Ho Chi Minh City Football Joint Stock Company (the managing unit of Ho Chi Minh City FC) dated July 9th requesting a name change from Ho Chi Minh City FC to Ho Chi Minh City Police FC, the VFF Executive Committee approved the name change on July 11th.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced that the new name will be used for the club's name in domestic football leagues starting from the 2025-2026 season.

In the event that a club participates in continental football competitions, the above issues must comply with the regulations and decisions of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the International Football Federation (FIFA).

Meanwhile, Becamex Binh Duong Football Club Joint Stock Company (the managing entity of Becamex Binh Duong Club) sent a letter to the VFF on July 10th requesting to change the name of Becamex Binh Duong Club to Becamex Ho Chi Minh City Club.

Ba Ria - Vung Tau Football Joint Stock Company (the managing entity of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club) sent a letter to the VFF on July 11th requesting to change the name of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club to Ho Chi Minh City Club.

These two clubs also received approval from the VFF Executive Committee to change their names on July 11th. The recognition of the new names will apply to the use of the clubs' names in the domestic football league system starting from the 2025-2026 season.

In the event that a club participates in continental football competitions, the above issues must comply with the regulations and decisions of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the International Football Federation (FIFA).

Ho Chi Minh City Police FC and Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC will compete in the V-League 2025-2026. Ho Chi Minh City FC will compete in the First Division 2025-2026.

Besides the three clubs from Ho Chi Minh City that requested a name change, another club, Phu Dong Ninh Binh FC, has also requested a name change. This First Division team, which recently earned promotion to the V-League 2025-2026, is requesting to change its name to Ninh Binh FC.

Last season, Ho Chi Minh City FC finished 10th out of 14 teams in the V-League 2024-2025 with 28 points after 26 matches. Becamex Binh Duong FC finished 7th with 32 points after 26 matches.

Meanwhile, Ba Ria - Vung Tau FC finished second to last in the 2024-2025 First Division League with 18 points after 20 matches.
