VFF agrees to rename 3 football clubs of Ho Chi Minh City

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has approved three Ho Chi Minh City football clubs to change their names to participate in the new 2025-2026 season.

On the afternoon of July 14, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) sent an official dispatch approving 3 Ho Chi Minh City clubs to change their names to participate in the new 2025-2026 season at the request of the units.

Specifically, based on the official dispatch of Ho Chi Minh City Football Joint Stock Company (the parent company of Ho Chi Minh City Club) on July 9 regarding the request to change the name of Ho Chi Minh City Club to Ho Chi Minh City Police Club, the VFF Executive Committee approved the name change on July 11.

VFF said the recognition of the new name applies to the use of club names in the domestic football tournament system from the 2025-2026 season.

In case the Club participates in continental football tournaments, the above issues must comply with the regulations and decisions of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the International Football Federation (FIFA).

Meanwhile, Becamex Binh Duong Football Club Joint Stock Company (the parent company of Becamex Binh Duong Club) sent a dispatch to VFF requesting to change the name of Becamex Binh Duong Club to Becamex Ho Chi Minh City Club on July 10.

Ba Ria - Vung Tau Football Joint Stock Company (the parent company of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club) sent a dispatch to VFF requesting to change the name of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club to Ho Chi Minh City Club on July 11.

The VFF Executive Committee also approved the name change for these two clubs on July 11. The recognition of the new name applies to the use of the club's name in the domestic football tournament system from the 2025-2026 season.

In case the Club participates in continental football tournaments, the above issues must comply with the regulations and decisions of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the International Football Federation (FIFA).

Ho Chi Minh City Police Club and Becamex Ho Chi Minh City compete in V-League 2025-2026. Ho Chi Minh City Club competes in First Division 2025-2026.

In addition to the 3 clubs in Ho Chi Minh City that requested to change their names, another club also requested to change their name, Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club. This first-class team that just won the right to play in the 2025-2026 V-League requested to change its name to Ninh Binh Club.

Last season, Ho Chi Minh City FC ranked 10th out of 14 teams in the 2024-2025 V-League with 28 points after 26 matches. Becamex Binh Duong FC ranked 7th with 32 points after 26 matches.

Meanwhile, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club ranked second to last in the 2024-2025 First Division with 18 points after 20 matches.
