Vietnam beat Malaysia 3-1

Xuan Son shines as Vietnam wins 3-1 against Malaysia at Thien Truong Stadium.

This match is merely a formality as Vietnam has already secured their place in the 2027 Asian Cup, while Malaysia is certain to be eliminated despite finishing second. However, the Malaysian team is determined to win to prove that their 4-0 victory over Vietnam in the first leg was deserved and reflected their true strength. Meanwhile, Kim Sang-Sik's team aspires to assert their position in Southeast Asia.

In the starting lineup, coach Kim Sang Sik attracted attention with a team including: Nguyen Filip, Van Hau, Duy Manh, Viet Anh, Quang Vinh, Quang Hai, Hoang Duc, Tien Anh, Hai Long, Hoang Hen, and Xuan Son.

In the 10th minute, Malaysia had a chance. Faisal Halim broke through between two Vietnamese defenders to receive the ball and unleashed a shot that went past Nguyen Filip's reach; fortunately, the ball went wide of the post.

In the 20th minute, Hoang Duc unleashed a long-range shot from 35 meters that hit the crossbar.

Immediately afterwards, the Vietnamese team retreated deep into their own half, allowing the Malaysian team to have a more proactive approach to the game.

In the 32nd minute, Hoang Hen unexpectedly unleashed a left-footed shot directly at the goal after a pass from Hai Long, sending the ball just wide of the post.

In the 36th minute, Tien Anh delivered a superb diagonal pass from the right wing, and Quang Hai attempted a diagonal volley, but the ball went wide of the post.

The first half ended with a 1-0 lead for the home team.

The second half began with an opportunity for the visiting team. Harith's dangerous header forced goalkeeper Nguyen Filip to make a diving save, pushing the ball over the crossbar.

In the 51st minute, Hai Long pushed the ball to the left wing for Hoang Hen to cross from the left, and Xuan Son headed it into the near corner to make the score 2-0. A perfect start to the second half.

Xuan Son scored his second goal. Tien Anh crossed from the right wing, and Xuan Son rose high to head the ball in, increasing the score to 3-0 in the 59th minute.

Trailing 3-0 before the match ended, the Malaysian players seemed helpless in their ball challenges, leaving them with no opportunities to score against Nguyen Filip.

But unexpectedly, the Malaysian team scored a goal to reduce the deficit. Van Hau committed a foul in the penalty area, resulting in a penalty. CA TP.HCM striker La Endrick scored to reduce the score to 1-3 in the 76th minute.
