Vietnam's stance has been clearly stated in the statement of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Regarding Vietnam's submission of the Extended Continental Shelf Limits beyond 200 nautical miles in the Central East Sea Area, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang affirmed at a regular press conference on July 18, when reporters asked related questions.
The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also informed that, to demonstrate goodwill and responsibility, Vietnam has informed relevant countries about this issue through diplomatic channels.
“The discussions took place in an atmosphere of sincerity, friendship and frankness. All countries recognize and respect Vietnam's right to submit a submission on the boundary of the continental shelf extending beyond 200 nautical miles, in accordance with the provisions of Article 46 of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea," Ms. Hang shares.
According to the previous announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the morning of July 17 (local time), at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, and the working delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai, Deputy Head of the National Border Committee, officially submitted the dossier to submit the extended continental shelf boundary beyond 7 nautical miles of Vietnam in the Central East Sea Area to the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS).
Also at the press conference, answering questions about Russia and China recently conducting joint exercises in the East Sea, Ms. Pham Thu Hang affirmed Vietnam's view that cooperation between countries needs to contribute to peace. stability and development in the region as well as the world.
