On the afternoon of September 4th, information from Binh Dan Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) indicated that Professor, Doctor, and Physician Van Tan, who dedicated his entire life to the medical profession, passed away at 10:15 AM that day.
Accordingly, Professor, Doctor, and People's Physician Van Tan was born in 1932 in Hai Lang, Quang Tri . In 2006, he was awarded the title of Hero of Labor by the State.

He is honored as the best arterial surgeon in Vietnam, the second best liver surgeon in the country, and the first Vietnamese doctor to perform thoracic sympathectomy and abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery.
He graduated as a medical doctor in 1964 and has been associated with Binh Dan Hospital from 1972 to the present. He is one of the rare surgeons who has performed surgery on almost all types of surgical conditions, with over 30,000 cases, mostly major surgeries.
To date, he has published 10 specialized books and more than 300 research papers on surgical pathologies ranging from orthopedic trauma, thoracic surgery, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders.
He is also a professional consultant at Binh Dan Hospital and a lecturer at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine in Ho Chi Minh City.
Professor, Doctor, and Surgeon Van Tan's famous surgery was the reattachment of Nguyen Duc and his conjoined twin brother, Viet-Duc, born in Kon Tum. The surgery, performed in 1988, became a milestone in Vietnamese medical history and was recorded in the Guinness World Records.
The three main surgeons for that operation were Professor Tran Dong A, Professor Van Tan, and Doctor Tran Thanh Trai.
Alongside his illustrious medical career marked by tens of thousands of major surgeries and over 300 valuable scientific research papers, Professor, Doctor, and Physician Van Tan was also an exemplary teacher with a teaching career spanning nearly 60 years.
The coffin of Professor, Doctor, and Physician Van Tan is laid in state at 99, Street 19, Hiep Binh Chanh Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City. The embalming ceremony will take place at 6:30 PM on September 4th.
The viewing will take place from 7:30 PM on September 4th to 5:00 AM on September 7th. The funeral procession will begin at 6:00 AM on September 7th. Cremation will be at Hoa Lac Vien - Sala Garden Cemetery (Tan Hiep, Long Thanh, Dong Nai).
