From newspaper pages to literary works
In the literary and artistic life of Hai Phong , many journalists have become beloved literary writers. They bring to their works the experience of journalism, sensitivity to life, and a wealth of material accumulated over many years of work.
When mentioning journalists who keep the literary flame alive, journalist Nguyen Thanh Cai, former Director of Hai Duong Radio and Television Station and former Chairman of the Hai Duong Journalists Association, is a prime example. With over thirty years in journalism, including more than twenty years in media management, he has left his mark with many award-winning journalistic works such as: "Awareness Before the Earth," "The Funeral of the Plowman," "The Loofah Transformation," "There Is a Compassionate Village in Chi Linh," etc.
Notably, alongside his demanding journalistic work, he persistently pursued literature. His field trips, the places he visited, and the lives of the people he encountered during his work became a rich source of material for his writing. To date, he has published 13 books, many of which are well-known to readers, such as "The Village Ghost," "Where Heaven and Earth Meet," and "The Village Gate." According to journalist Nguyen Thanh Cai, it was his years of traveling, meeting, and learning so much during his journalistic career that led him to literature.
Journalist and writer Vu Tuyet May, a member of the Hai Phong City Union of Literature and Arts, is one of the prominent figures among journalists who have transitioned into the field of literature. Years of experience in journalism have given her the opportunity to interact with historical witnesses and figures who made significant contributions to the country. From these encounters, she not only gathered information but also listened to memories and everyday details rarely found in official documents. It is this life experience and accumulated material from her journalistic career that gives depth to her writings.
The interplay between literature and journalism

From the stories of writers and journalists Vu Tuyet May, Nguyen Thanh Cai, and many other writers, it can be seen that journalism and writing, although different in their methods of expression, have a special, close relationship.
Writer and journalist Nguyen Thanh Cai shared that journalism is, first and foremost, a journey to find the truth. Journalists must be present at the scene, meet the people involved, and record the movements of life. This process helps them accumulate a rich source of information that not every writer possesses. Each assignment, each interview, opens up new stories. The destinies of individuals, the transformations of rural areas, and the changes in the country enter the memories of journalists like "seeds" waiting to sprout into literary works.
Conversely, literature helps journalists develop emotional depth and keen observational skills. A journalist who knows how to write well is often able to uncover valuable details, tell compelling stories, and naturally convey humanistic messages. Many successful journalistic works exist because, behind the numbers and events, there is the warmth of human connection, genuine emotions nurtured by a literary soul.
In the digital age, where information appears and disappears rapidly, journalists quietly "keep the flame" of literature alive as a way of preserving enduring values. If journalism reflects the pulse of today, literature helps those stories live longer in the community's memory. Therefore, many people liken journalism to the field of reality, while literature is the harvest of emotions.
