FORM HAS REACHED ROCK BOTTOM
In the Premier League, Tottenham finished 5th in the 2023-2024 season and plummeted to 17th place with only 38 points after 38 matches (an average of 1 point per game). This season, Tottenham are doing even worse, with only 30 points after 31 matches (an average of 0.96 points per game). Coach Igor Tudor's team is currently 17th, just one point above the relegation zone.
With only 7 rounds remaining in the Premier League, Tottenham only have one match against a lower-ranked team, Wolves (20th, 17 points). All their remaining opponents are considered stronger than the "Spurs": Sunderland (11th, 43 points), Brighton (10th, 43 points), Aston Villa (4th, 54 points), Leeds United (15th, 33 points), Chelsea (6th, 48 points), and Everton (8th, 46 points). Tottenham's form is at its lowest point. The last time they secured a full 3 points in the Premier League was over 3 months ago when they beat Brentford 2-0 in December 2025. Clearly, Tottenham's chances of relegation are higher than their chances of avoiding relegation.

The Guardian described Tottenham's performance as "a strange mix of panic and resignation." The players struggled, but couldn't make a difference and then had to accept the harsh reality that the whole team was declining. The humiliating 0-3 defeat against Nottingham Forest in round 31 was clear evidence of this. Tottenham started with energy, playing fast-paced, determined football and creating a series of chances. They could have easily taken an early lead. But the ball didn't go into the net. And then, just one moment of defensive lapse, and they were punished.
The goal conceded came from a seemingly harmless set piece, but it triggered a familiar series of collapses. From then on, anxiety gradually took over the team. Passes became inaccurate, movements slowed down, and confidence vanished almost immediately. The second half saw a weakened Tottenham, who conceded another goal and collapsed. It's worth noting that this wasn't a bad game for them. On the contrary, it might have been one of their best halves in weeks. But even playing well, Tottenham still lost. That's the most alarming sign.
A FRAGILE HOPE
However, there were still some glimmers of hope. Earlier, Tottenham had drawn at Anfield against Liverpool, ending a run of six consecutive defeats. They also won 3-2 against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. This result didn't secure their progression, but it did somewhat restore their confidence and self-esteem.
Young players like Archie Gray and Mathys Tel bring new energy. The style of play under Igor Tudor is also starting to show clearer signs of intensity and organization. But the bitter reality is that Tottenham have yet to win a game this year. Their efforts, while commendable, haven't been enough to translate into points.
What makes the situation dangerous is the feeling of "systemic helplessness." Tottenham aren't not trying, but the harder they try, the closer they seem to get to failure. This is a state many relegated teams have experienced: when everything you do isn't good enough, and confidence erodes with each passing match. Currently, Tottenham aren't in the relegation zone. But the gap is incredibly narrow. And more importantly, there are no clear signs that they can save themselves.
