The newly established Vinh Thong ward was formed by merging Vinh Thong ward, Phi Thong commune, and My Lam commune, with a natural area of 95.89 square kilometers and a population of over 55,000 people. Deputy Commander of the Vinh Thong Ward Military Command, Nguyen Viet Cuong, stated: “Ensuring continuous and effective military and national defense tasks is the top priority when implementing the reorganization of administrative units and local governments at two levels. With a large area, a large population, and proximity to the provincial administrative and political center, immediately after the merger, the Ward Military Command focused on consolidating barracks, utilizing the old headquarters for relocation; streamlining organizational structure and personnel, maintaining strict combat readiness, building a regular and disciplined system, and ensuring the successful performance of duties.”

Following the reorganization, the headquarters of the Vinh Thong Ward Military Command is located in Ta Tay neighborhood; at the same time, two militia checkpoints are maintained at the Vinh Thong Ward Military Command barracks and the former My Lam commune. This arrangement facilitates the unit's deployment of tasks and close coordination with the Ward Police in implementing Government Decree No. 03/2019/ND-CP on coordination between the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security in protecting national security, maintaining social order and safety, combating crime, and fulfilling national defense duties.
The Military Command of Vinh Thong Ward plays a pivotal role in advising and organizing the implementation of military and national defense work. The unit proactively develops, supplements, and refines combat readiness plans to suit the characteristics of the area, ensuring timely response forces, especially during holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and major events. Comrade Nguyen Viet Cuong stated: “The unit focuses on building, reviewing, and supplementing the militia and self-defense forces. Militia checkpoints maintain and protect their headquarters, are on standby for combat readiness, and coordinate with police forces in patrolling and guarding, especially during peak periods serving the Party congresses at all levels.”

Despite the outdated barracks, the officers and soldiers of the Vinh Thong Ward Military Command strive to maintain order and discipline in management and daily life. Nguyen Quoc Trung, the squad leader of the Vinh Thong militia outpost, previously worked at the My Lam Commune Military Command and is now assigned to the position. “My workplace is further from home, about 7km away, and I have to be on duty 24/7. But with the responsibility of a retired soldier returning to the locality, I try to overcome difficulties, maintain troop numbers, keep the barracks clean, ensure 100% duty roster, and be ready to support the police force in case of emergencies,” Trung said.
Agricultural production is also a highlight of the Vinh Thong Ward Military Command, contributing to improving the lives of officers and soldiers. Permanent militia soldier Mai Duy Canh said: “We maintain a green, clean, and beautiful barracks; we take advantage of opportunities to grow vegetables and raise chickens to improve our meals. We encourage and support each other, building a united team, determined to successfully complete all tasks.”
With a spirit of solidarity and responsibility, the Military Command of Vinh Thong Ward continues to strengthen its grasp of the situation, promptly advising the local Party committee and government on effectively implementing military and national defense work, contributing to maintaining stability in the area, creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development, and improving the lives of the people.
