The Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 is fast approaching. This year, favorable weather conditions have helped peach blossoms grow well, with evenly distributed buds and beautiful shapes. From An Duong and An Hai to Thach Khoi and Nam Sach, the atmosphere of tending peach orchards to supply the Tet market is entering its most vibrant period of the year.
Proactive gardeners
In key peach-growing areas of Hai Phong such as An Duong ward, An... Hai, the atmosphere in the early days of the twelfth lunar month is already bustling. In the peach orchards, growers are busy checking buds, adjusting branches, stripping leaves, fertilizing, and regulating water. This year, Tet (Lunar New Year) is late, but the weather is considered quite favorable for peach trees, allowing growers to be more proactive in adjusting their techniques.
An Duong ward has over 200 hectares of land planted with peach blossoms, kumquats, and ornamental flowers, of which over 100 hectares are dedicated to peach blossoms. According to local residents, due to favorable weather conditions, this year the supply of peach blossoms and kumquats for the Tet holiday in 2026 is abundant, and the quality of the trees has improved significantly.
At the Dong Du peach orchard (An Duong ward), Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, who has been involved in peach cultivation for nearly 50 years, said: “Last year, the weather was unfavorable, and the peach trees were severely affected. This year, the trees are growing well, and the buds are uniform. My family planted about 100 trees, and customers have already placed orders for nearly 50%, with prices ranging from a few million to tens of millions of VND per tree.”
In Tri Yeu residential area (An Duong ward), Mr. Nguyen Van Son is busy inspecting nearly 300 peach trees after stripping the leaves. He said that after last year's major storm and flood, his family had to invest in replanting nearly half of the trees. "This year the weather is favorable, the peach blossoms are very beautiful, and the buds are evenly distributed. Although it's not yet peak season, customers have already pre-ordered about 20% of the trees in the garden," Mr. Son said excitedly.
Mr. Bui Viet Dan (Tu Lap residential area, An Duong ward) said his family has more than 200 ornamental peach trees of various types to meet the demand for buying and renting during Tet (Lunar New Year). “This year, the weather has been favorable, and we've followed proper care techniques, so the trees are healthier, have larger buds, and more beautiful shapes than in previous years. Since the beginning of January, many customers have come to place orders, rent, and there have even been shipments of peach trees to provinces in Central Vietnam,” Mr. Dan shared.
The peach orchards in Thach Khoi and Tan Hung wards and Nam Sach commune are also starting to get busy with visitors coming in to admire and order peach blossoms.
Currently, Phu Lien village (Nam Sach commune) has nearly 400 households participating in flower and ornamental plant cultivation, covering an area of approximately 22 hectares, with 70% of the area dedicated to peach blossoms. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thong's household dedicates the majority of its land to growing ornamental peach blossoms of various types, from traditional branched peach blossoms and grafted peach blossoms... At this time, the peach blossoms are in bloom, and growers must adjust the timing and intensity of fertilization depending on the tree to ensure the blossoms last longer. "This year's weather is favorable, and we have proactively managed our care schedule, so this year's peach blossoms promise to be more beautiful than last year," Mr. Thong said.
Customers buying peach blossoms come not only from the local area but also from Quang Ninh, Hanoi , Thanh Hoa, and other places.
According to local assessments, experience in adapting to weather conditions, proactively stripping leaves, stimulating and inhibiting growth, along with techniques such as "rotating" the branches, has helped peach trees this year achieve uniform quality, beautiful shapes, and long-lasting flowers. A late Tet (Lunar New Year) is no longer a pressure, but an advantage, allowing peach growers to proactively "manage" the blooming timing.
The market is improving.

Alongside gardening, the market for peach blossom trees for the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 is also becoming vibrant. In An Duong and An Hai wards, many gardeners report that the percentage of customers placing orders or renting peach blossom trees has reached 50-80% of the planned production by the beginning of January 2026. Trucks transporting peach blossom trees to Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Hung Yen , Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and other locations have begun to roll.
Mr. Do Van Chinh (from Dong Du peach blossom village, An Duong ward) shared: “After losing 70% of my trees last season, I had to go to the highlands to buy wild peach tree roots to graft back on. This year, I adjusted the leaf-stripping technique, delaying it by 10 days to ensure it blooms just in time for Tet. The most beautiful tree in my garden has already been reserved for rent at a price of 22 million VND.”
In Phu Lien village (Nam Sach commune), the model of grafting peach trees onto wild peach rootstock is becoming increasingly popular. Mr. Nguyen Hong Chien, who has over 30 years of experience in growing peach trees, said that his family has more than 500 grafted peach trees, and so far about 80% have been sold. “Grafted peach trees have old rootstocks, beautiful shapes, and abundant flowers, so they are easy to sell. Although prices this year are down about 30% compared to last year, the family expects a revenue of about 400 million VND,” Mr. Chien said.
Overall assessments from localities indicate that this year's Tet peach blossom market is stable, with abundant supply and improved quality. Local authorities in wards and communes have proactively coordinated support for transportation, ensuring security, order, and traffic safety in peach-growing areas; they have also promoted and organized spring flower fairs, creating opportunities for people to access capital and technical expertise.
It is noteworthy that after the heavy losses caused by storms, floods, and extreme weather in previous years, the 2026 Lunar New Year peach blossom crop is considered a "recovery crop." It's not just about the economy; it's also an affirmation of the resilience of peach cultivation. From the fields of An Duong and An Hai to Thach Khoi, Tan Hung, and Nam Sach, peach growers are placing high hopes on a prosperous and abundant spring.
