Career choice trends are changing.

This year's university and college admissions season is seeing significant changes in students' choices of majors. Parents are paying close attention to and carefully guiding their children's career choices.

Dr. Nguyen Van Trung, Head of Admissions and Public Relations at Lac Hong University (located in Tran Bien Ward), stated: "Choosing a school and a career is a very important decision in life, because the profession a student chooses may be associated with their entire life. Therefore, students must research and consider very carefully and thoroughly."

Shifting the engineering industries

According to universities, through admissions and career guidance at high schools, candidates are increasingly shifting towards choosing engineering and economics fields related to technology. These fields are also closely aligned with the development trends of the labor market in the new context, as the country experiences strong scientific and technological development. In particular, by 2025, fields in the fields of education, military, and public security will be popular choices for many candidates, despite their specific entry requirements.

Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, Pham Hong Thang:

Be wise when deciding on your field of study.

Choosing a career or field of study is a very important decision for each student, so you shouldn't register your preferences based on emotions or what most of your friends are doing. Instead, base your decision on your own abilities, interests, and opinions to make the wisest choice.

Pham Anh Tuan, a student from Lam Nghiep High School (located in Trang Bom commune), said: “This year, I plan to apply for admission to the Automotive Technology major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education. One of the reasons I decided to choose this major is because mechanical engineering is one of my favorite fields. Considering the societal demand, almost every family now owns or will buy a car, so the need for repair services will grow even larger. Besides, the automotive manufacturing industry in Vietnam is developing rapidly, so I think I will have many opportunities.”

Bui Trong Tan, a student at Bui Thi Xuan Primary, Secondary, and High School (located in Tam Hiep ward), said he has decided to choose logistics as his future career path at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport. According to Tan's research, freight logistics is a relatively new field in Vietnam, with not many universities offering training in this area. Furthermore, Vietnam is a major producer and exporter of goods, so he believes pursuing this field will allow him to seize opportunities.

According to Dr. Nguyen Khac Cuong, Principal of Lilama 2 International College of Technology, universities and practical engineering fields are not too difficult to study; students only need passion to largely succeed. Furthermore, job opportunities are currently abundant, with many students being hired by businesses even before graduation. In the future, job opportunities for engineering students will be even greater as the country develops its transportation infrastructure with many large railway projects, and various manufacturing sectors will require a skilled technical workforce.

The semiconductor industry is on the rise.

The 2025 university admissions season continues to see the growing appeal of semiconductor chip and integrated circuit manufacturing. This field is predicted to remain popular for many years to come, as Vietnam is a focal point for investment from major technology companies in the semiconductor chip and integrated circuit manufacturing sector. Meanwhile, the shortage of high-quality human resources in this field poses a challenge for businesses. Currently, not many universities offer training in semiconductor chip and integrated circuit manufacturing, making it difficult for prospective students to find admission opportunities.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh, Vice Rector of Lac Hong University, starting in 2024, the university will begin offering a semiconductor integrated circuit training program, becoming the first university in Dong Nai to do so. Currently, many semiconductor technology corporations have signed cooperation agreements with the university to provide training and guarantee job placement for students. To study this program, students must have a passion for technology and a basic understanding of mathematics and physics. In addition, students need basic English skills to support their studies, research, and future communication.

Regarding job opportunities in this field, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh added: “Graduates in this field don't need to worry about job opportunities, because this industry is and will continue to need a lot of manpower to serve production. The government has a plan to train 10,000 semiconductor and chip manufacturing engineers, so students will benefit greatly. On the other hand, many businesses are currently willing to provide opportunities for semiconductor and microchip students to intern early and hire them immediately.”

The teaching profession is experiencing a resurgence.

In previous years, the teaching profession tended to have difficulty attracting students, as candidates often prioritized economics, engineering, and technology fields. However, 2024 and especially 2025 have seen a resurgence. Not only are students with average academic performance choosing to study education, but many students with excellent academic records are also deciding to pursue it instead of other "hot" fields with higher incomes such as healthcare or finance and banking.

According to the Board of Directors of Dong Nai University, the resurgence in enrollment in the teacher training sector stems from the increased attention paid to teachers' welfare policies compared to the past.

Nguyen Thi Thuy Tien, a student at Tran Dai Nghia Primary, Secondary, and High School (Ho Nai Ward), said: “I decided to choose the teaching major after doing quite a bit of research. This field currently has preferential policies for training, such as tuition fee exemptions and support, and students can also receive support for living and studying expenses. Moreover, policies for teachers are much better now than before if working for public schools, and private schools also need excellent teachers and offer high salaries.”

Meanwhile, Doan Nguyen Thang, a student from Ngo Quyen High School (located in Tran Bien ward), the top scorer in Block A of the 2025 Dong Nai Provincial High School Graduation Exam, said he has applied for admission to the Mathematics Education major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. This is his favorite major and he has strived for many years to have the opportunity to be admitted. Besides the government's training support policies, this major currently offers quite good job opportunities if graduates with good or excellent grades from Ho Chi Minh City University of Education achieve a good or excellent grade.
