Stabilize and improve quality simultaneously.
Son Vi commune currently has over 20,000 inhabitants. After reorganization, the new health station has one main station and two branch stations; it has 16 medical staff, including two doctors. Medical officer Nguyen Van Luong, Deputy Head of Son Vi Commune Health Station, said: “Although the new station has just started operating, professional tasks are still maintained stably, ensuring uninterrupted service to the people. In addition, to prevent people from having to travel far and to ensure they have access to medical services at the grassroots level, the station has proactively proposed supplementing equipment such as ultrasound machines, electrocardiographs, hematology-biochemistry-urine testing equipment, and office equipment to support communication activities.”
Visiting the Minh Quang Commune Health Station for a routine check-up and to get medication for high blood pressure, Mr. Ma Van Gia from Ban Don village, Minh Quang commune, said: “Every month I'm used to having regular health check-ups and routine medical examinations at the health station. I know that the local authorities are reorganizing and merging the three former health stations – Minh Quang, Phuc Son, and Hong Quang – into one central health station and several branch stations. Currently, I see that medical examinations at the stations are still running normally. I hope that after the reorganization, the commune's health station will have improvements, with doctors from various specialties and more modern and well-equipped facilities to enhance the quality of healthcare for our local people.”
Improving the primary healthcare system after the merger.
To date, the Department of Health has completed the reorganization of health stations. Accordingly, in 124 new communes and wards, there is now one health station or regional polyclinic and several health station locations, specifically: 24 regional polyclinics, 100 health stations in the new communes (health stations and regional polyclinics are located in the administrative centers of the new communes) and 203 health station locations in the former communes.
In terms of personnel, there are 1,743 officials and employees: including 265 doctors currently working at health stations (17 communes have 1 doctor/health station; 79 communes have 2 doctors/health station; 22 communes have 3 doctors/health station; 6 communes/wards have 4 doctors/health station). From December, 6 doctors will be seconded to support the commune level for 12 months and this will continue in 2026.
Dr. La Dang Tai, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, said: Currently, commune health stations and regional polyclinics have completed the merger under the management of the regional health center, ensuring effective disease prevention and control and primary healthcare for the people. To continue building on the achievements, the health sector will focus on implementing comprehensive solutions in the coming time. Among these, training and attracting high-quality medical personnel remains a top priority, alongside investment in standard facilities and equipment. Financial policies and allowances for commune-level staff will continue to be improved, creating a stable working environment and fostering long-term commitment.
The merger is a major turning point, posing many challenges but also opening up opportunities for comprehensive reform of the grassroots healthcare system. With the determination of the entire political system, Tuyen Quang is gradually building a modern, humane, people-oriented grassroots healthcare system that serves the people better and better.
