Zirkzee's dream of leaving MU is shattered.

The transfer deal for striker Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United has fallen through, as confirmed by AS Roma's sporting director Ricky Massara.

Speaking to DAZN Italy , Massara said: “Manchester United have completely closed all discussions regarding the transfer. After changing managers, they don’t want any disruption. The chances of them changing their minds at this point are very low.”

Following the termination of Ruben Amorim's contract earlier this week, Darren Fletcher was appointed as interim manager. Simultaneously, the Manchester United board decided to freeze all transfer negotiations until the situation stabilizes. This leaves Roma with no opportunity to approach Zirkzee at this time.

Before manager Amorim was sacked, Zirkzee had only played around 500 minutes in all competitions. This lack of playing time led the 24-year-old striker to want to leave to salvage his career, especially given his underwhelming form at Manchester United. However, changes on the coaching staff have stalled these plans.

Zirkzee joined Manchester United in 2024 under manager Erik ten Hag, but has yet to make a significant impact. This season, he has only scored two goals and struggled to secure a starting place. In total, Zirkzee has scored nine goals in 64 appearances for the Red Devils, including just five Premier League goals in 46 matches.

Roma was seen as a potential destination for Zirkzee to revive his career, but given the current situation, the deal is almost certainly over.
