Although current rumors suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max won't be a revolutionary design like previous historical milestones, a host of worthwhile upgrades are still in the works, promising to make this one of the most attractive iPhone generations in years.

More notably, Apple is reportedly going to completely change its iPhone release schedule. Instead of launching all products at once as traditionally done, the company will adopt a two-phase strategy.
Accordingly, the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max , and the first foldable iPhone will launch in September 2026.
The remaining models, including the standard iPhone 18, iPhone Air 2, and iPhone 18e, will appear in spring 2027.
A familiar design, but more refined.
The prototype images suggest that Apple will continue to maintain the design language of the iPhone 17 Pro Max series. The rear camera cluster will still be arranged in a triangular shape with three lenses placed on a raised camera base.
However, the company is expected to refine the design to create a more seamless feel. The Ceramic Shield 2 glass on the back will blend better with the aluminum frame, reducing the color difference between the materials. This will make the overall device look more elegant and unified.
Screen sizes are likely to remain unchanged, with the iPhone 18 Pro using a 6.3-inch panel and the iPhone 18 Pro Max boasting a 6.9-inch screen, similar to its predecessor.
The iPhone 17 may be the last chance before Apple raises prices across the board.
Battery life could set a new record.
One of the most notable upgrades lies in the battery. Sources from China indicate that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be equipped with a battery capacity of 5,100 to 5,200 mAh, surpassing the 5,088 mAh of the iPhone 17 Pro Max – which currently holds the record for the largest battery in iPhone history.
To accommodate the larger battery, Apple may make the device slightly thicker. The device's weight is expected to increase to around 243g, even heavier than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the heaviest iPhone Apple has ever produced.
In return, users will enjoy even better battery life, solidifying the Pro Max series' position among premium smartphones with the best battery life on the market.
Dynamic Island is significantly smaller.
One of the most talked-about topics right now is the future of Dynamic Island. Sources are still divided on whether Apple will integrate Face ID under the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro Max . However, most agree that Dynamic Island will be significantly smaller.
According to some experts, this notch could be reduced by about 35% in width, from over 20mm to just about 13.5mm. This would give the screen a larger display area and provide a better visual experience.
Apple is reportedly testing technology to miniaturize the front camera and Face ID sensor in order to achieve this goal.
LTPO+ displays are more energy efficient.
Besides shrinking Dynamic Island, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is also expected to use the brand-new LTPO+ display technology.
Compared to current LTPO technology, LTPO+ has the ability to control the amount of light emitted from each OLED pixel more precisely. As a result, the screen can automatically adjust brightness more effectively according to the surrounding environment.

The new chip will be manufactured using TSMC's advanced 2nm process, instead of the 3nm process currently in use.
Reducing the size of transistors increases component density, improves processing performance, and lowers power consumption.
Predictions suggest that the A20 Pro could be around 15% faster and up to 30% more power-efficient than the A19.
In particular, Apple is expected to adopt the new WMCM packaging technology, which allows RAM to be integrated directly onto the same chip die as the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. This will increase data transfer speeds, improve AI processing capabilities, and optimize battery life.
The C2 modem was developed by Apple itself.
Another significant change lies in the connectivity modem. Apple is reportedly equipping the device with its own C2 modem. This is the successor to the C1 modem that appeared on the iPhone 16e.
The C2 modem promises faster data transfer speeds, higher energy efficiency, and, most importantly, support for mmWave 5G networks in the US, a feature missing from Apple's first-generation modems.

DSLR-standard camera makes its first appearance on the iPhone.
The field of photography will also see a major leap forward. According to multiple sources, the 48MP main camera on the iPhone 18 Pro Max will support variable aperture.
This is a feature that is usually only found on professional cameras or some high-end Android smartphones.
Variable aperture allows users to change the amount of light entering the sensor depending on the shooting conditions. In low-light environments, the aperture can be widened to capture more light.
Conversely, in well-lit conditions, the aperture will narrow to increase sharpness and control the depth of field.
This allows users to create images that closely resemble the experience of using a DSLR camera.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max will come pre-installed with iOS 27 and a completely new version of Siri AI. Apple's virtual assistant is said to understand context better, be able to remember personal information, recognize content displayed on the screen, and retrieve real-time data from the internet.
The new Siri will also integrate more deeply into email, messaging, documents, and other apps, making AI a core part of the iPhone user experience.
