For nearly two months, the Government, the Prime Minister , and various ministries, sectors, and coastal localities have been very decisive and focused on implementing a month-long campaign against IUU fishing with the goal of "resolutely declaring war on IUU fishing and determined to lift the EC's 'yellow card' against Vietnam's fisheries by 2025."
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the management of fishing vessels and monitoring of fishing activities continue to be strictly maintained, especially for fishing vessels that do not meet operating conditions. 100% of fishing vessels (79,360 fishing vessels) have been registered and updated on the national fisheries database VNFishbase. The situation of handling violations of the law in IUU fishing continues to have positive changes...

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested relevant ministries, branches and localities to implement the dual goal: to explain and end IUU fishing according to the EC's recommendations; at the same time, to restructure the fisheries industry to develop sustainably, legally and legitimately, to restructure the fishing fleet, fishermen and the workforce in the direction of: fishing must be legal, to increase aquaculture and seafood processing, to strengthen cooperation with neighboring countries to exploit and process seafood; and to reduce very risky offshore fishing.
The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of National Defense to continue patrolling and controlling the sea areas bordering countries in the region; control fishing vessels entering and leaving ports, strictly handle fishing vessels that do not meet the conditions for participating in activities; guide ship owners and captains to carry out procedures for declaring fishing vessels and fishermen entering and leaving ports; and resolutely not allow unqualified or unregistered fishing vessels to participate in activities.
