| The artwork "Lion-Elephant Stone" by the late renowned painter Le Ba Dang, made from the wreckage of a B52 aircraft, is on display at the "Journey from the Heart" exhibition. |
For Le Ba Dang, Vietnam is not only his birthplace, but also a land of memories, a source of inspiration, and a deeply rooted spiritual foundation. And in that journey back home, Hue was chosen as a trusted destination to entrust the artistic essence of his life.
In the summer of 2026, art lovers will once again have the opportunity to meet the late painter Le Ba Dang in the space named after him with the exhibition "Journey from the Heart".
Following the works displayed in the Le Ba Dang Art Center (part of the Hue Fine Arts Museum, 15 Le Loi Street, Thuan Hoa Ward), viewers encounter collections that have made a name for themselves as a "master painter of both East and West," including *The Footprint of Giao Chi*, *From the Hung Kings' Founding to the Ho Chi Minh Era*, *The Victory of Dien Bien Phu*, *The Rice Grain of Truong Son*, *The Ho Chi Minh Trail*, *The Bach Dang Spiked Stakes*, *The Drama of Humanity*, *Existence and Non-existence*…
Each artwork tells a story, not simply a journey of creation, but one that embodies the soul and profound love for his homeland of this talented artist, a love he has cultivated for over 70 years of dedicated pursuit of visual art. “I have never left my homeland. Because even though I live far away, my soul remains connected to it. And all my artistic works, in general, are simply reflections of that love in many aspects,” Lê Bá Đảng once expressed.
"A Journey from the Heart" is therefore seen as a meeting of memory and the present, of homeland and the world, for the artist who throughout their life is oriented towards their roots.
Speaking at the exhibition celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Le Ba Dang art space in Hue, Dr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City, expressed: "Each of Le Ba Dang's works is not just an image, a composition, a visual structure, but a world in itself. Within that world are memories of Vietnam, glimpses of the countryside, traces of war, the call of the motherland... His art doesn't stop at mere sight, but invites viewers to contemplate, not only beautifying the space but also expanding the spiritual space of humanity."
According to Mr. Hai, Hue's preservation and promotion of Le Ba Dang's artistic heritage over the past 20 years is not only a responsibility towards a great artist, but also part of the city's cultural development strategy. This space has become a unique cultural destination, linking exhibitions, research, art education, creative exchange, and cultural tourism promotion. Le Ba Dang's works are not lying dormant in the treasury of memory, but are continuing to be awakened, introduced, interpreted, and disseminated to the public both domestically and internationally.
In the context of Hue asserting its position as a centrally-governed city, a heritage, cultural, ecological, and landscape city that is environmentally friendly and oriented towards sustainable development, the Le Ba Dang Art Center is not only an art institution but also a symbol of Hue's ability to integrate culture; becoming a place for the convergence, preservation, and dissemination of artistic values from around the world.
| In 2006, the Le Ba Dang Art Center was established. According to the Hue Museum of Fine Arts, the center currently houses more than 400 works by the late renowned painter Le Ba Dang, covering a wide range of themes, materials, and forms of expression. |
