At the 25th anniversary celebration of Phu Thanh JSC last year, Mr. Ho Hoang Hai - Chairman of the company - declared emphatically, " From today, August 6, 2022, we will start anew . We will continue our journey for the next 25 years with determination, a burning passion in our hearts, a desire to get rich and rise to the top, and we will unite together in conquering customers, especially in the next 5 years of rapid growth. " This statement seems difficult to understand, given that Phu Thanh is a 25-year-old company, well-known in the market for retractable awnings since 1997, and is currently a leading company in the LED advertising sector with numerous large-scale projects nationwide, such as the lighting and LED systems for the VPBank building, Handico, TNR, and Muong Thanh Hotel...
Notable constructions of Phu Thanh
According to the Chairman of Phu Thanh, this decision was made after a month of deliberation, inspired by a suggestion from his close friend, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Hai - Chairman of Alphanam, on how to seize post-Covid opportunities and ensure the company's growth in five years would be many times greater than in 25 years. Phu Thanh Joint Stock Company was established in 1997 and has been a leading manufacturer of retractable awnings in Vietnam since its early days. The "Phu Thanh Retractable Awning" product has been voted "High-Quality Vietnamese Product" for 10 consecutive years. The "Phu Thanh Retractable Awning" product has captured up to 80% of the market share in Vietnam. Besides retractable awnings, the name Phu Thanh is also associated with a series of early digital photography studios in Vietnam. In 1999, after a trip to Thailand, Mr. Hai successfully introduced digital photography technology to Vietnam. Phu Thanh's digital photography and videography services achieved tremendous success under the brand "Phu Thanh Digital," partnering with dozens of digital photography studios across the country. Later, the product gradually declined as more advanced technologies emerged and consumer behavior changed. In 2002, Phu Thanh pioneered the production of LED electronic display boards. This new product quickly dominated the Vietnamese market and won the Golden Star of Vietnam award twice, in 2003 and 2005. Currently, Phu Thanh specializes in the LED field, with three main applications: firstly, advertising signs; secondly, artistic lighting; and thirdly, electronic display boards. According to Mr. Hoang Hai, in 2012, approximately 60% of buildings in Hanoi , such as Lotte, PVI, and Keangnam, used Phu Thanh's LED advertising signs. According to information on its website, Phu Thanh is a partner of over 1000 clients, including many large corporations, real estate companies, banks, etc., with annual revenue of hundreds of billions of VND.
Mr. Ho Hoang Hai, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Phu Thanh Joint Stock Company
Also at the 25th anniversary celebration of Phu Thanh Company in 2022, Chairman Hoang Hai shared, " Living in poverty and experiencing failure are the two greatest experiences of my life ." He couldn't hide his emotion, saying, " I have to thank my parents for the impoverished days of my childhood. Those days gave me the will and determination to rise up and become wealthy. At the same time, they also gave me the opportunity to fully enjoy the sweet fruits of my labor. Experiencing failure is an incredibly wonderful experience, not everyone gets to have it." "It helps people contemplate many valuable things in life and also helps us find benefactors." Mr. Hai was born in 1977 in Hanoi into a family with three brothers. His parents were teachers, and the family's finances were extremely tight. From the 6th grade, Mr. Hai helped his mother sell eggs at the market to earn extra income for the family. During his high school years, he had to do many other jobs to help support the family financially, such as gluing bags, selling fish sauce, and working as a tour guide. His family circumstances, along with the example of his hardworking father, instilled in Mr. Hai from a very young age the dream and aspiration to become rich. "Poverty goes hand in hand with meanness." " My family was very poor, and of course, I used to be very timid, " Mr. Hai shared, recalling his impoverished childhood in a 2007 talk show about entrepreneurship. Although he was a good student, having won third prize in the city-level English competition, due to his family's difficult circumstances, by the time he was in 11th grade, his father had steered him toward learning to drive instead of going to university. In 1997, while his peers were still in university, Mr. Hai was already working as a driver to make a living. The turning point that led Mr. Hoang Hai onto the path of entrepreneurship came from a trip to Ho Chi Minh City, where he saw retractable awnings – a product that was not yet available in the capital. Immediately, the businessman, who was then working as a driver, planned to bring this product to Hanoi. Initially, no one in Hanoi knew about retractable awnings; businesses used tarpaulins with two supporting poles to stretch the awning out onto the sidewalk. Without capital or employees, Mr. Hai... He personally printed flyers and went around advertising directly throughout Hanoi's streets. In 1995, Mr. Hai's opportunity arose when the government issued Resolution 36/CP, removing awnings from sidewalks. However, because it was a new product, people were still unsure whether this retractable awning model would be accepted. Mr. Hai installed large retractable awnings for free at shops at intersections in the city center to show people that using retractable awnings was not prohibited. Thanks to this, Phu Thanh's product sales skyrocketed. The product's name became even more widely known when Mr. Hai spent hundreds of millions of dong advertising Phu Thanh retractable awnings on Hanoi television during the popular Bao Thanh Thien series at the time. Although the Phu Thanh brand became well-known, the name... doesn't belong to anyone. Mr. Hoang Hai confided: "Phu Thanh isn't anyone's name. Phu means wealthy, Thanh means success." When spoken in reverse, it becomes "Thánh Phù" (Holy Talisman).
