The "Pink Moon" is the name given to the full moon that occurs in April each year. This name originates from Native American culture, associated with the time when pink phlox flowers bloom in early spring. Therefore, despite the name "Pink Moon," the actual moon doesn't completely turn pink but retains its familiar bright white color.
According to the Hanoi Astronomical Society, this year's April full moon will reach its fullest point around the morning of April 2nd, Vietnam time.
However, in reality, it's difficult for the naked eye to notice the exact difference at that time, because the moon will appear almost perfectly round for about a day before and after its peak. Therefore, people in Ho Chi Minh City can observe a bright moon from tonight, April 1st, to tonight, April 3rd, if the weather is favorable.
In the early hours of the moon's rise, especially when it's low near the horizon, the moon can sometimes appear a soft yellow or orange. This happens because the light has to pass through a thicker atmosphere, causing the wavelengths of light to be scattered. At the same time, the "moon mirage" phenomenon also makes many people feel that the moon is larger than usual as it rises above the horizon.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the best time to observe the moon is usually after 6:30 PM, when the sky darkens and the moon rises in the east. As the night progresses, the moon rises higher and shines brighter in the sky.
