According to initial verification, at approximately 8 PM on February 14th, three people, N. (21 years old), M. (18 years old), and T. (15 years old, all residing in Dat Moi commune, Ca Mau province), were having dinner at a snail restaurant in Nam Can commune.
Here, three people ordered grilled horseshoe crab. About 15 minutes after the meal, T. showed symptoms of fatigue, nausea, and numbness of the tongue. Ten minutes later, the other two people exhibited similar symptoms. All three were taken to Nam Can General Hospital for emergency treatment.
After treatment, the health of the three patients is stable and progressing well.
Authorities have taken samples of the remaining grilled sea snails from the three patients for testing. The snail restaurant involved has been ordered to temporarily cease operations.
Local health authorities advise people not to consume horseshoe crabs without first distinguishing between horseshoe crabs and sea cucumbers (which look very similar, but sea cucumbers are usually poisonous).
If, after eating horseshoe crab, you experience unusual symptoms such as numbness of the tongue or lips, nausea, abdominal pain, or dizziness, you should go to the nearest medical facility as soon as possible for monitoring and timely treatment. Do not attempt self-treatment at home as this may delay emergency treatment for poisoning.
