According to BGR , AirTag 2, the long-awaited item tracking device, is expected to launch in 2025. Since its launch in April 2021, AirTag has become a useful and popular tool, helping users locate luggage, backpacks, wallets, and many other items.
AirTag 2 is expected to bring even more improvements over its predecessor.
According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, AirTag 2 will be equipped with a new processor chip and more advanced positioning technology. Based on this, many users hope Apple will add five new features to AirTag 2, including:
Second-generation UWB chip
The current U1 chip in AirTags will be replaced with a second-generation UWB chip, increasing connectivity range and improving positioning accuracy, especially in environments with many obstacles.
Improved Precision Find functionality
Thanks to the new UWB chip, AirTag 2 is expected to have more accurate location tracking with Precision Find, especially when paired with an iPhone 15 or later. Users can easily find the AirTag using the device finder feature on their iPhone, even if it's far away or hidden in hard-to-reach places.
The new design is more flexible.
The current AirTag design is highly praised for its aesthetics; however, many users wish for more options to attach AirTags to different items. For example, a thinner design would make it easier to slip AirTags into a wallet or keychain, or have holes for attaching straps or keychains.
Add more color and style options.
Currently, AirTag is only available in white. Adding color and style options would allow users to personalize AirTag and easily distinguish their tracking devices.
The sound is louder.
The sound emitted by the current AirTag can be a bit quiet in some situations, making it difficult to locate. Upgrading to a louder sound would make it easier for users to pinpoint the AirTag's location, especially in noisy environments.
With its planned improvements, AirTag 2 promises to be a more powerful and convenient item tracking tool, meeting the growing needs of users in managing and protecting their personal assets.
