50 years of green along the Da Nhim River

Located in the heart of the Southern Central Highlands, Don Duong district, not only stands out with its beautiful natural scenery along the cool Da Nhim river, but is also a vivid testament to the tireless development efforts after 50 years of liberation (April 2, 1975 - April 2, 2025). 50 years have passed, the green of the largest vegetable fields in Lam Dong province, the green of the new rural economy, the green of nature and the breath of life of Don Duong people, with effective social security and poverty reduction policies, Don Duong is gradually affirming its position in the socio-economic development picture of the province.

• MANY EFFECTIVE SOCIAL SECURITY POLICIES

Don Duong district has implemented many specific support policies to improve people's lives. Vice Chairman of Don Duong District People's Committee Tran Hung Dung said that the district has implemented many social security support policies, such as: exempting and reducing tuition fees for 100% of students from poor households, issuing health insurance cards to the poor and the elderly, completing 100% of the plan to build houses for poor households and supporting electricity bills for poor households... These efforts have helped improve people's lives, especially ethnic minorities, who account for more than 31% of the district's population.

In recent years, the Party committees and authorities of Don Duong district have concretized the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on rapid and sustainable poverty reduction. The district has been proactive and creative in propagating, directing, and mobilizing people to participate, while allocating budgets and funds to implement poverty reduction, adjusting policies in a more beneficial direction for the poor. Thanks to that, the poverty rate of ethnic minority households has decreased by 4-5% per year, and their lives have significantly improved. By the end of 2024, Don Duong district no longer has poor households, with 144 near-poor households, accounting for 0.59%, of which there are 99 near-poor households of ethnic minorities, accounting for 1.29%.

By 2025, Don Duong district will have no more poor households, the lives of ethnic minorities will be improved.

• LEADING IN HIGH-TECH AGRICULTURE

The Da Nhim River, originating from the Lang Biang Plateau, has provided abundant irrigation water for the district’s famous vegetable fields. In recent years, Don Duong District has focused on developing high-tech agriculture with many modern production models. In the potato fields in Kambutte village, the harvest atmosphere is bustling with the sound of machinery and the laughter of the people. Mr. Tou Prong Cuong, a local farmer, said: “Now in Kambutte, no one talks about poverty anymore. We have linked production, the output is guaranteed, no longer relying on the weather.”

In the process of developing and building a model new rural district, Don Duong has built from core values, developed high-tech agriculture in line with the trend and maintained its identity. In particular, the main priority is to focus on planning production areas, selecting advantageous products, investing in high-tech agriculture, organic agriculture, linking value chains, attracting businesses, accumulating land... to create quality products that are friendly to the ecological environment. The new driving force for agricultural economic development is policy innovation, followed by scientific and technological innovation to create value. Therefore, continuing to develop, along with digital infrastructure, logistics, veterinary systems, and plant protection, is a strategic step that Don Duong district is aiming for.

The district is on a trajectory to change its agricultural economic thinking and add value to the Model New Rural Development Program in the coming years. Agriculture will now create added value, not just stop at increasing output. In particular, applying technology, industry 4.0 and focusing on preliminary processing, preservation, packaging and e-commerce. At the same time, the market will be segmented to meet the requirements of each open market in the partnership agreements that Vietnam has participated in. From there, creating a "push" for agricultural production.

Tu Tra and Da Ron communes of Don Duong were recognized by Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee as the first high-tech dairy farming area in the province in 2020 with a total area of ​​10,639 hectares. Currently meeting 5 criteria for high-tech application in organizing production and consumption of products linked in the value chain, with enterprises, cooperatives, and cooperative unions as the focal points; production meeting quality standards and high economic value; 100% of enterprises, cooperatives, farms, and farming households meeting high-tech farming criteria; using biological products to protect the environment; the area also meets a minimum scale of 10,000 dairy cows or more.

Along with the development of high-tech agriculture, Don Duong has attracted many businesses to invest in the fields of tourism and agricultural production. The district has become an attractive destination for investors, with many high-tech agricultural production models, such as: Samten Hills Dalat spiritual and cultural tourism area is mentioned on the world tourism map and impressive agricultural tourism models.

For 2 consecutive years, Don Duong has been at the top in administrative reform.

• STABLE NEW RURAL MODEL

Don Duong district has been selected as one of four pilot districts to build a model new rural district for high-tech agriculture in the period 2019 - 2025. Up to now, the district has had 8 communes meeting the model new rural standards and strives to have 100% of communes meeting the advanced new rural standards by 2025.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Don Duong district, Nguyen Van Huu, said: "We have developed an action program to implement the resolution of the District Party Committee, including directing the promotion of administrative reform and the application of information technology in handling documents for people and businesses."

The district has maintained its first position in the provincial administrative reform index in 2022 and 2023. Don Duong is continuing to deploy national digital technology platforms, build digital maps of agriculture and rural areas, and promote digital economy in rural economic development. The district is moving towards a sustainable development future, not only in the agricultural sector but also in all other sectors, to improve the quality of life of the people.

The green Da Nhim River still flows, carrying the dreams and aspirations of the people here. With its tireless efforts, Don Duong is gradually affirming its position on the economic development map of Lam Dong province, towards a brighter future for the people here. Don Duong district is not only a successful model in poverty reduction but also a typical example of sustainable development, where people not only escape poverty but also reach for bigger dreams in life.
