New discovery: This much online time is best for those in their 50s.

A new study, recently published in the scientific journal Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, has found that people aged 50 and over who use the internet for up to two hours a day are less likely to develop dementia.

Researchers tracked 18,154 adults aged 50 to 65 over an eight-year period. These individuals did not have dementia at the start of the study.

The results revealed that those who used the internet at the start of the study had half the risk of developing dementia compared to those who did not regularly browse the web.

Specifically, people who spend a maximum of two hours online each day have a lower risk of developing dementia, according to the New York Post.

Is it dangerous if your gums turn black?

Healthy gums are pinkish-red, sometimes slightly pale. In some cases, gums may change color. When a portion of the gums starts to turn black, many people's first reaction is worry. However, this color change isn't always a cause for concern.

In some people with more pigmentation than average, the gums will still be pinkish-red, but slightly darker than usual. The gums may also turn red and swell if inflamed, according to the health website Healthline (USA).

External impacts can cause the gums to become bruised and turn black.

Conversely, if the gums suddenly become pale, it could be a sign of vitamin deficiency or cardiovascular disease. For those whose gums turn black, the cause is not only due to a predisposition to higher melanin production but also due to the accumulation of melanoma in that area. Melanoma is a benign, small, dark spot with a high melanin density, formed when the body produces more melanin than normal.
