On Instagram, FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the hosts for the 2030 and 2034 World Cups. The 2030 World Cup will be the first time six countries co-host the tournament: Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. Additionally, three commemorative matches will be held in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay to mark the tournament's centenary.
Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup. This will be the third time the world's biggest football tournament is being held in Asia.
Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup.
"The bidding process was approved by consensus through the FIFA Council – which includes representatives from all federations – following constructive dialogues and extensive consultations," FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced.
Saudi Arabia was chosen to host the 2034 World Cup after no other contenders were found in the bidding process. The remaining task for the World Football Federation is to survey and confirm that the West Asian country meets the requirements to host the World Cup.
Besides Saudi Arabia, several Asian countries have expressed their intention to bid to host the 2034 World Cup as part of a co-hosting alliance. However, no formal proposals have been submitted to the International Football Federation (FIFA). On October 31, the Football Association of Australia announced it would not participate in the bidding. Saudi Arabia became the only country to have applied to host the 2034 World Cup.
"Football unites the world in a way unlike any other sport , and the World Cup perfectly embodies the message of unity and inclusion. At the same time, it is the clearest evidence that different cultures can coexist, learn from, and understand each other better," Infantino said after announcing the next World Cup host nations.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The tournament will switch to a new format with 48 participating teams.
